My post opened with “Whilst he was DoF” so I took the ones when it was his ultimate say. Dele was not at that time. Pleat was a scout for Dele so gave a recommendation rather than a “let’s do it”

My list was the rubbish whilst he was DoF - his decisions. I also qualified my post with “occasional diamonds” during that period whom I didn’t list. In my opinion, for every decent signing there were 4 or 5 poor ones. It was not a good hit rate in my opinion.

People try and re-write history to make Pleat a hero. But in my eyes, he never was.
What's the Ulrika fascination about ?

Never liked Pleat. I remember the song

David pleats a pervert
he wears a perverts hat
and when he sees a prozzie
he says im having that

Always made me laugh. Dirty little man.
If anyone here has actually read Pleat's book, there is a chapter in which he discusses these allegations. The truth is that the allegations were false and he was deeply traumatised by the harassment campaign from the tabloids.

This is why we lost him as a manager in 1987. He was so consumed by what the papers were doing to him and his family (wife, children, elderly parents) that he was no longer able to do the job effectively.

And I’m sure when Thomas Partey writes his autobiography I’m sure he will claim innocence in being a bit Rapey from time-to-time.

Pleat never sued the newspapers which is as big an admission of guilt as any.

If you've ever been faced with the reality of legal action, you might feel very differently.

There are no certainties when it comes to court and Pleat wasn't in a position where he could afford the consequences if he lost the case. Most celebrities who win libel cases aren't putting the house on the line when they go to court.

The reality of legal action for most people is that you either can't afford to go to court or you can't afford not to go to court - and God help you if it's the latter.

Pleat was actually one of the lowest paid managers in the 1st Division and received a very poor settlement from Irving Scholar when he was sacked. Two more details that are mentioned in the book.

You don’t get to my age without a few court cases - divorce, business disputes, etc. - where you need to decide if you are going to go for it and risk / cost of losing.

I’ve never had to deal with libel / slander but if it was to impact my ability of earning a living or my reputation I would go hard at it. He didn’t.

Whilst he might not have been a highly paid manager compared to some, he probably earned a salary in the top 0.1% in the country at the time and has nothing to complain about.

Pleat is a narcissist and I can’t recall him taking personal responsibility for anything. Look at his issues with Glenn Hoddle as a case in point.

It was false, in what way? He was either cautioned for kerb crawling or he wasn’t?

I haven’t read the book, or listened to this podcast. What’s his explanation?

It goes back to when he was manager of Luton. Kenilworth Road is right in the middle of Luton's red light area and the police had records of his car in the area when he was just travelling home from the stadium and women approached his car when he was stuck at the lights. He was never arrested for any offences.

The situation escalated when a prostitute sold a story to The Sun claiming she had sex with him which Pleat describes in the book as a "complete fabrication".

He also mentions that solicitors did advise him that he had a valid case for a libel suit but he decided not to pursue legal action for the reasons detailed above.

I would recommend reading the book for yourself instead of relying on my paraphrasing. It's a very good book with a wealth of information about the game (football, that is).

I’m not a massive fan of his but his thoughts are interesting. He has huge experience and does articulate himself better than most. He kept Jordan in his box which is usually a sign of somebody who has some idea of what they’re on about.

You think you need to read comics to know they are made up crap? Intresting. Gamma rays give you cancer mate they don't make you very very strong.
Absolutely no idea what you’re talking about , Gamma Rays ?
You’re the one who mentioned the sun , I’ve no idea if they mentioned it .

What I do know is that I posted a photo of a comedy character who explains his predicaments himself & usually wraps up with “ I now consider that the end of the matter “ sounded very much like what you posted , did it offend you ?

I’ve got nothing against Pleaty and what he does/did in his own time is up to him

True not even Hugh Grant could afford the two possible consequences;
Losing or winning an amount less than what was already being offered...both mean you pay defence and court costs!

Didn't know where else to post this.

David Pleat has been handed a 12-month Celtic scout role

Good on him. I get why we stopped using him, but the amount of experience he has in his old noggin is amazing. He can tell so much about a player just from their body language during a match.

Wow...lol. The wit on this one. You posted footage from a sketch show in regard to a story in the Fucking SUN. The story in the paper made claims about Pleat why are you in a conversation you are not apprised of? Are you not following the conversation just contributing pictures? I challenged the premise of taking anything in the SUN with any kind of veracity. This is sound life advice.

I did not say YOU mentioned the SUN. The subsequent pun about the content of comic books could be solved with a quick Google, and is a lot more widely known than that Little Britain sketch you so winningly reminded us of.

We have very successfully purged the club of anyone outside with a bit of football smarts that could point to the dumpster fire we are in and suggest we fix it. I honestly belive it's partly why Ange is still in a job.
