I think he's decent

This signing smacks of getting a lad in because he was available and cheap. No real strategy or thought behind it other than that.
It's early and he needs to be given time and gain PL levels of fitness.
However, when he came on against Southampton and Royal (I think) played a ball down the right and he was in a straight foot race with the Soton defender, he looked a plodder. To kill defenders you need pace. I was shocked at how little he appears to have.
Let's hope the fitness coaches do their stuff, but in my view you have explosive acceleration and pace, or you don't. As a youngster he should have it.
I hope he's not a deadline-day signing like Sissoko when anyone will do.
Give him a dozen games to have a fuller assessment. Showed little yesterday (as did everyone else).
Most hit the ground twitch then have a nice Rose Bush growing on them a short time later. Dose this await Dejan and will the roses smell as sweet?I didn’t anyway. None of our signings ever seem to hit the ground running.
Hilariously for the people who want to cut him slack your description sounds like one.......Tanguy NdombeleThis lad might have some ability about him, but that doesn't help when you are seemingly miles away from the pace of the Premier League.
Doesn't look like a good buy from the on field evidence seen so far unfortunately.
Kulusnailki shows we really didn't have a plan this window (as usual). We aimed for a fast direct player in Adama...didn't get him and moved on for a similar pacey player in Diaz...didn't get him so got literally the slowest player we could find.

Agree that it's not the be all and end all, but defenders (especially FB/WBs) hate pace. Of course you need to have basic skills and the football brain that a PL level footballer requires, but if you have pace...No you don't, not in real life. It might help but it isn't the be all and end all.
