That's fair.
It's also fair to point out that Jesse Lingard once had a similar January loan for West Ham before going to shit (same g/a in the same period) and that sometimes players just have a wonderful run and its not indicative of them being an elite footballer.
And fair to point out that Kulu was very poor at Juventus, hence why we got a very favourable try before you buy deal. So wedged in between a flying half a season, you have a lot of rubbish either side. And it's very fair to question whether this club can afford to take a gamble on a poorly performing player.
That's all very fair as well, I'd say "very poor" at Juve is a little bit harsh perhaps, obviously some of their fans claimed we were "fleeced" by them, but a good section of them said they could see a player in there but the system they played did not accommodate him in the slightest. I think there's a strong possibility he returned before full fitness from his injury this season, which could have affected him for some time.
The Lingard comparison is an interesting one, because his career is actually a pretty good allegory for a very poorly managed player. He spent way too long at United trying to prove himself on loan and make the dream come true when he should've jumped ship to play regular football in his early 20s, angled for a move back or to another big club when he came into prime around 27-29, Zaha has come close at several points to achieving just that but obviously Palace have claws in very deep and he's probably fucked it for himself now but in a sense he will go down as a very well liked player in Palace's history, sometimes if you're just not that great, that's better than a decade on loan and in obscurity.
I like that Kulu has seized the chance to get off Juve's bench and into another first team, last year he started off on the bench and just kept giving reasons for Conte to look barking mad not to pick him. If it weren't for how white hot he was he would've rotted on the bench like Bissouma and Richy have for long stretches this year. I'm not defending that he hasn't helped the team to put in better performances this season, but at the same time as entertaining the possibility that he was a "half season wonder", I think it's equally worth considering the possibility that when an entire team is playing as poorly as this one, it's a little bit unfair to single out individuals who haven't been here all that long, are young and able to improve and grow into the team, and have shown clear ability over sustained periods in the past. I think Son comes into a lot more criticism because he is at this point a Spurs icon, he is one of the two men we always turn to to get us out of the shit, so fairly or unfairly, when he isn't performing it's all the more disappointing.
I think if we had signed him for £34m last summer no one on here would be saying "get shot", but since he's on loan the possibility is being entertained of sending him back. I would say, £34m is really not all that much in todays' football world, and if we can get back the player we saw last season, it's a fucking bargain to boot. We've gotta give a few of these newer guys a fair whack under a new manager and system, we have enough parasites who have been here for far too long to replace to get rid of people like Kulu in the space of one summer.
