No they don't - just so many on this forum (which, with respect, at times like these is hardly representative of our wider fan base). Early return from injury and lack of an experienced left centre back to cover and support have caused more of his problems in my opinion. What a change in destiny for Udogie since the beginning of last season!
At the beginning of Angelos' time at Spurs, last season, both pundits and Spurs fans were raving about Udogie being one of the best young LB not just in the EPL but in Europe; clubs like Real M. & Man City were being linked to him (Udogie being the solution to the LB issue Man City have had for several seasons) and his price tag was said to be around £70-80m and yet Spurs fans were totally against any potential sale.
Now so many (most?) Spurs fans just want him out and replaced...![]()
It's easy to lose sight of the fact that injuries don't just affect the position of the injured player - they impact the whole tactical and positional play of the team. After almost 60 years of supporting Spurs I'm as gutted as anyone to see the results over the last 6 weeks or so, but it's clear that having so many defensive injuries have devastated the team. It can't be a coincidence (surely?) that the results and performances have been so poor since Van de Van and Romero (and Davies) have been injured? Other defensive players have had to be be slotted in and unfortunately either aren't up to the demands of the way Ange wants the team to play or have been overplayed - but necessarily so.
Man City have been in freefall mainly because of 1 injury to Rodri and Woolwich are now in a panic because Saka will miss a few games and yet despite our injury crisis some fans seem to think we should still be performing at the top level every week and battling it out with Liverpool at the top of the table. How would those two cope with so many first team starters out for 6 weeks +?
I don't know whether or not Ange will still be in post at the end of the season, but in a way I hope he is. I do believe that with a full strength squad and maybe an addition or two in January, his tactics and this team can win something despite the predicament we have been in for so long now. However I'm a pragmatist - it doesn't look good for him just now, my concern is that just replacing him isn't going to change the injury crisis nor the fact that we have a fatigued playing staff. I'm not a believer in 'new manager bounce' - it might work for teams that hate the manager and have downed tools but that doesn't seem to be the case with us.
Que sera sara I guess - I just want to see us win a game again!
