This looks like a common trend regarding match reports about Spence; good going forward but sloppy in defense.
Spence was one of the few players Conte was right about.

Ndombele frustration, Djed Spence disappointment with Spurs starlet to return

Djed Spence (Leeds United)

Spence's Leeds United career is very much up and running now and the right-back is currently playing on the left of Daniel Farke's back four.

However, the 23-year-old had a tough day at the office on Boxing Day as Leeds lost 2-1 at Preston North End in the Championship with goalkeeper Illan Meslier sent off just eight minutes into the second half. Spence was then beaten in the air four minutes later as Alan Browne scored the opening goal of the game.

Spence got a score of five in Leeds Live's player ratings after the game with the review: "Some decent forays forward in the first half, but has to do better with Alan Browne beating him to the ball for the goal."

It was a disappointing result for the promotion chasers, who sit fourth in the table following their statement 4-0 win against high-flying Ipswich on Saturday.

After that game Spence was given a rating of eight by Leeds Live with the explanation: "By far his most complete display for the Whites so far. Really dependable in the backline, especially when he was exposed by Struijk's wanderings. Looked even better in attack, though. So quick and silky on the run. Defenders can't get the ball off him."

He’s playing in the Championship, if he doesn’t get good reviews at that level it’s not a good sign.

He should be tearing up that league if he wants to make it here. Skipp was Norwich’s best player in the Championship and most people think he’s not good enough.

He has been tearing it up since coming back from injury. That's his first bad review
Man down also- shouldn’t really be getting beaten in the air with his size and athleticism but that can happen to anybody.

We’ll need to see what he does second half of the season to assess fully. So glad he is playing under Farke though- I rate him a lot as a coach/manager.

See I want a fact check on what sounds like utter rollocks...Bentancur has what?!! My deepest Christmas apologies if you are correct...but it sound very suspect. Take that stick you got and poke( very very gently) at Ryan Sessingnon....

That's one hell of a ridiculous post.... If serious.

Yeap, it's a serious post. The argument to sell Sessegnon was 'because he's injured'. I pointed out that another player has been out for longer than Ryan but now, injury isn't the reason to sell him, it's talent, which brings this back to the original post:

Sessegnon has played under some dark times and Tottenham. He might surprise a couple of people when we see him under the current manager. As the post above suggests, everyone but Kane was terrible under Conte. It does seem plausible then, that Ryan can also improve

GK sent off so coach needs to take off an outfield player to replace the gk.

Was also hooked in the 3 previous games although not quite as early. Got beaten in the air for the first Preston goal. Way too early to judge him anyway, he’s just back from a long injury lay off, let’s see how he does over the next few months, would need to seriously impress in the championship to get a sniff with us next season.

He's also playing as LB, so good to see he's doing ok in that slightly unfamiliar position.

Aside from Championship he played 90 mins for Rennes at RB when they beat PSG with Messi and Mbappe in Paris - only thing that screwed up that loan for him was the early return from injury of RB and captain which restricted him to 8 appearances in French League. And before that played for Notts Forest beating PL sides Leicester and Woolwich before losing to Liverpool in FA Cup.

So he's shown he has the talent to be part of a team beating or competing with top sides - but actually didn't play much last season, and hasn't played much so far this season due to injury.

Its now down to getting fully match fit after a season and a half hardly playing, showing what he can do this season with Leeds as either LB or RB, having a chat with Ange at the end of the season who will decide if he's involved in pre-season or not.

But the difference is that Bentancur was probably our best central midfield player from the time he signed until he got injured.

Sessegnon's best run of matches since he signed for Spurs was probably when he was on loan at Hoffenheim where he was certainly 'ok' but not 'outstanding'. Mainly due to injuries he's not had a long run of matches were he's looked good playing for Spurs. So our expectations for Sessegnon are that he's not going to be a top LB for us - he could be but odds seem to be against him.

What about the previous season, the season before that & the season before that? Sess has spent far more time injured in the 4 1/2yrs since he’s been with us than he has been fit to play. To compare him to Bentancur is ludicrous. To top it off, he has shown absolutely nothing in the few games he’s actually played for us that he will ever be good enough at this level. He’s been an awful signing

He's our player ffs! Anyone would think I'm on an opposition forum! He's shit! He's shit! He's shit! What on earth is going on?

If you can honestly say with 100% accuracy that you know he has NO CHANCE OF IMPROVING under the current manager then fury muff, I bow to your insightfulness. My bad for wanting one of our own players to do well

His entire career at Tottenham has been during a period when fans in their droves were switching off, refusing to watch the dross servered up by the pervious incumbent. Many were calling to sell Heung-Min Son. Look at Bissouma, Sarr. Pedro Porro closed his social media account. People were hoping his loan didn't have an obligation attached to sign him.

Surely Ryan Sessegnon deserves a chance?

He's not saleable atm as he's still recovering from his op.

And that means he almost certainly will not be able to demonstrate he's fully match fit by end Jan and therefore he cannot be sold.

So he will be available for the 2nd half of the season, just needs to show Ange he can play as a LB in his system - and if he can do that he's almost certainly going to see some game time in 2nd half of season.

So he'll have a chance - just depends upon whether he has the abilities to take it.

Bentancur joined on the 31st of January, 2022

Sessegnon joined in August 2019 , so far has made less than 60 appearances for Spurs plus about 20 for Hoffenheim.

Not much playing time for 4 and a half seasons. And when fit has not been outstanding. Hence the odds are that in the 2nd half of the season if fit he's not going to suddenly look outstanding. Does he have a chance - yes door isn't closed yet
