It took me a while to realise what everyone's was talking about, and didn’t realise that Spence posted that himself. All I can say is if that is what passes for 'bantz' these days, I'm glad it wasn't around in my day.
My issue with it is that it so public, and every man and his dog sees it. If Bren sees it as a bit of a laugh, then fine, but seems very disrespectful IMO.

Judging by who is agreeing with the idea that this was disrespectful and unnecessary and those who are accepting it and supporting it as a bit of banter, there does seem to be some commonality on each group.

Maybe I’m wrong, but are the first few made up of the more (no offence) “mature” posters on the site and the banter boyzngirlz on the more youthful side?

Maybe we just don’t get it? Maybe this is a thing now. I’ll be keeping an eye out for it anyway from now on.

I don't think it's an age thing. I'm approaching my late 40s.

I think the players just have thicker skin and a better sense of humour than you credit them with, which isn't intended as an insult towards you. It did initially strike me as a dick move but I don't think it was really the case.

Maybe the two of them are having a huge laugh about it. I’ve never said I know how they both feel about this, just how I would if I were involved.

I’m unsure however, of crediting players with anything. Been a while since I saw anything approaching intelligence or emotional intelligence in an interview with a player, and it’s never happened with Spence or Johnson.

It’s not the meme that’s causing the discourse. I know what a meme is. I’m pretty sure that the entirety of the forum knows what a meme is.

The point of the discourse is the suitability of using this particular meme to very publicly take the piss out of an underperforming team mate, who we all seem to agree, isn’t going to improve his performances by this happening.

We aren’t all scratching our heads asking our carers what a “GTA” is.

If we want some hot takes based on zero evidence mine is better. For some reason Djed Spence is a lighting rod for a certain kind of person. Even among our fan base he seems to quite the red flag. Its funny because that type normally like flags.

First you were just rubbish and would never ever make it, then you had some deep chatacter defect that meant the array of coaching geniuses we had were absolutely right to keep playing (Emerson Doherty pick your preffered clown)now you need to be attacked by your freind for teasing him. Now what is it Djed you seem too something for certain people 🤔

When he can be arsed. When he first came into the team he was making great forward passes. Did one the other night for England.

Didn’t he score v cov, helped with the winner then discarded. First game back v soton did a bit of skill and then played a lovely through ball. Think he had some other goal involvements to. Not sure how many destiny has tbh?
 
From everything I've seen behind the scenes Johnson loves the bants and would be one of the first to wind up and take the piss out of his teammates. He's best mates with Madders and clearly has a sense of humour.

My sense is Djed wouldn't do this if he didn't think Johnson could take it. Really don't think this is remotely an issue at all and it's just 2 mates having a laugh.

Ironically the main reason we signed him was cos he was scintillating going forward for Forest - scored some absolute bangers playing at wing-back and looked brilliant charging forward. Most doubts were around his defensive capabilities, if anything.

Obviously his role is different playing at full-back but I'm surprised and how little he gets forward these days and how 1v1 defending is now his major strength. He's definitely got it in him to be great going forward (particularly playing on the right) so not sure if it's more of a tactical or a confidence thing that's holding him back?

Spence is very one footed and I think being able to use your left foot opens up better passing angles if you play left back. It’s not the whole story but the limitations of Spence in attack I think is more to do with just how right footed he is, when he has played right back his dribbling and passing has caused the opposition issue but when he plays left side he mostly checks back onto his right foot and passes inside or back.
