Spence’s persona reflects almost everything I can’t stand about the modern footballer and this Spurs team in particular.
While he’s a decent defender, his crossing is in the 44th percentile for full-backs — well behind the defensively inept Porro — and almost all of his dribbles go nowhere. 0 goals, 0 assists.
Legendary player (in his own mind) and plays at being depressingly dumb.

He still has never been given a run of games at his natural RB position. He can play as a defensive specialist at LB, but his one-footedness makes it painfully awkward and painfully obvious that he would be better played elsewhere.

He’s been picked because Tuchel clearly leans towards certain profiles to fit his team. He doesn’t want the most talented players, he’s said this. He wants the ones that fit his system.

I don’t much rate Spence. I think he’s inconsistent and limited. But he’s very fast and strong 1v1 and versatile. Tuchel loves these traits. It’s fuck all to do with his religion.

+ to this, Spence got called up first when in good form. He impressed Tuchel during that camp. Clearly Tuchel has based his selection largely on players who did well then & he wants the same consistency and ethos he got from the squad in qualifiers.

It really doesn’t require bullshit conspiracy theories.

Id keep him as a rotation option, but he seems to have a serious ego which wouldnt allow him to be a backup player. So hopefully someone gives us £20M for him after a few sub apps at the WC, then we put that towards a hungry (preferably English) EFL full back to come in and provide competition
