I mean I don't know how to explain signing him to a new contract and then leaving him off the Europa League squad.100% This. Ange behaved like a few here locked fully in to a a set idea they refuse to let go.
Not to defend everything Spence does, but I'd say everyone bar Sarr is tired in the second half. Just the way we playI thought he was brilliant. Tired in the second half as he’s probably not match fit but first half he was unplayable.
Ange's reticence to make subs is his worst quality, though obviously at current numbers he has little choice. Not to defend everything Spence does, but I'd say everyone bar Sarr is tired in the second half. Just the way we play
What is impressing me most is his passing.Playing against a team with no wingers and using a defender as their wing-back surely made his job easier, but he was very good regardless. Relentless pressing all over the pitch without neglecting his primary defensive responsibilities, proactive with the ball, nice read of the game, great engine for most of game. Not much more to ask from a player who wasn't getting any meaningful minutes prior.
He definitely earned a place in the squad, especially considering that Udogie is far from a world beater himself. Don't overthink and just let him play.
I feel like credit is due to the coach in this situation.
The message has clearly been "your training's not good enough, reach this level and you'll play".
Djed's done the work to reach that level, and clearly that level can help us.
While giving credit to him, I do think you can't underestimate the benefit of not having played a trillion minutes this season like Porro and Udogie have had to. Rotation will do all of them a world of good physically and mentally.
He was the first sub for either FB to start the season mate. Ange was putting him on before Davies. He got injured and Ange was a bit reluctant to rotate his FBs.That's not really what happened is it?
I've a strong suspicion he's only being played because both Porro and Udogie are gassed, and he's being forced to play Gray at CB
I am really happy that Spence finally has been given a chance - a chance he seem to have taken really well.
But people are quick to blame Angelos for rarely using him, without knowing what's gone on behind the scene.
Boro loaned him out to Forest before he joined Spurs. Conte hardly used him. Then he went out on loan to Rennes, where he lost his starting spot. Leeds cut his season-long loan deal short. And Genoa did not want to trigger his buy-clause at around £8m.
So it's not just Angelos who's deemed Spence "not good enough".
