Player Djed Spence

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

The facts are as follows;

The club (Levy) signed Djed Spence while Conte was the manager and he made his feelings clear.

The club (Levy) then sacked Conte and appointed Ange.

Ange has 'chosen' to initially overlook Spence, from team selection, for best part of 18 months.

Ange has then 'chosen' to select Spence for the team, during an injury crisis, but only play him at left back, despite assertions from many that Porro is 'tired' and overplayed.

I know you won't be able to see it or get it.... but it's there, it's real, and it's weird.

There are also a bunch of cults, on various THFC forums, who continue to apologise for and defend this weirdness by attempting to insult anyone who questions it, on a personal level, by conflating the truth and calling for banning orders .

What a bunch of weirdo's.

Thank you! BRAVO- excellent post

What a bunch of weirdo's.
I’m pretty sure many of these people with these strong opinions weren’t even forum members here when Spence was signed (unless they are multis of disgraced former members- as has long suspected to be the case for several prominent past forum members who went awol- everyone suspected they would turn up again someday in some other form). I know you and I were here however.

My point is that we don’t even have a record to refer to of their opinions on the matter. For many of these folks there’s not a verifiable record on here that they were paying attention to this issue in real time.

You have your opinion; I have mine.

I see so many similarities with what happened to Marcus Edwards at Spurs that I can no longer buy into any of the crap that is spouted by the brown nosing journalists who 'hear things' from the club.

Both Edwards and Spence found it difficult to get game time at Spurs when they clearly had more ability than players that got game time.

Both were loaned to Daniel Farke teams and subsequently had their character assasinated with whispered rumours of having the wrong attitude, being difficult, or keeping the wrong company off the pitch.

There was talk of Edwards having contractual issues during his time at Spurs. Spence managed to get his new contract sorted before he began being picked regularly.

Neither you or I really know the real reasons why Spence was left out for 18 months when he is clearly a very talented footballer.

Whatever the reason was it makes Spurs look foolish.

Who continually makes Spurs look foolish?
I’ll differ from you here in that I suspect Ange accepted Contes take on Spence as his default position, and was too busy with our other squad issues last season (and Emerson Royal) to worry much about Spence, and only opened the door for him to truly remain in the squad after Spence made a personal outreach to him this past summer, while also realizing that he was desperately short in his rotation and might actually need him. To not trust Levy to provide him a backup LB was smart of Ange so I credit him for at least keeping this possibility alive for himself.

I suspect Ange didn’t trust Spence but left the option open to use him at some point as long as he was a good citizen and trained well. In the end he absolutely needed him and Spence took the opportunity with both hands and has given Ange no reason to drop him since. Of course that he will remain starting when Udogie return for example is an open question, nor have we seen Spence played ahead of Porro at RB. It remains to be seen what Ange will do.

As for Farke I suspect he’s just a bit of a too honest complainer and elected not to hold back about Spence or Edward’s, who probably both were lazy trainers or otherwise disrespectful and earned bad if not perhaps a bit harsh reputations for themselves.

As far as Porro goes my take is that Ange simply has favorites and elects to play players every game if they are decided to be fit enough. I strongly suspect Porro is very much trusted by Ange, who recognizes his incredible ball striking and deliveries.

Ange seems to have some idea in his head that first choice players at their positions ALWAYS retain their natural positions, and that subs merely fit in around them wherever they can. I know he has deviated from this a bit with wingers and Kulu, but for the most part it really has held true. My own take is that is a suboptimal strategy, but I can also understand Ange having a set idea about how his rotation will work, for better or worse.

I don’t see this so much as any kind of conspiracy as more like forgetting you bought a cool piece of gear, and then realizing what you’d forgotten later on. Spence for me was wrongly or rightly marooned by Conte, and has worked very hard to put himself in a position to be remembered by Ange and the club.

In the end though I don’t care so much about how so much as I’m glad he’s come good for us and can help lead our resurgence in the league.

Aww- it’s ok- we can respectfully disagree can’t we? Do we really need to accuse each other of being cultists?

You're right about Porro.... and some favourites are warranted.....Would Klopp, or Slot, ever drop TAA in the Prem if he was available?

Of all DR and DL he has the 3rd most key passes, 2nd most assists in the league.... and Spence/Udogie don't seem to cross much, if at all.

Aww- it’s ok- we can respectfully disagree can’t we? Do we really need to accuse each other of being cultists?

Yes, you're right I humbly apolo...

Wait...

This- is a classic feature of any leader with a cult of personality.

This- is delusional.

We're 12 points off CL places right now with only 18 games left. Ange would need a miraculous run to match his record last year, much less improve on it.

The cult like behavior is obvious- but it's actually your claque that is guilty of it.

Come back to the side of sanity and admit throwing the league to chase cups in an escapist bid to salvage something from this season is an implicit admission of failure. The table doesn't lie, bub.

Ange needed to develop a couple kids to help plug holes in the squad. He didn't. Ange needed to reach out to a couple of the castaways to plug holes in the squad. He didn't.

That's on Ange, and now that the squad is completely run down he pretends it wasn't his own fault. Ange-in cult blames Levy for putting Ange in a situation where he wanted to stick to his principles instead. Fair? I don't know- but between "principles" and necessary pragmatism we might be actually relegated. We're actually a laughing stock right now. We're actually a failing club right now.

Someone needs to be practical and do what is necessary to save the club from relegation.
