England squad

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

With a 28 man squad, Southgate's included most of the players he's announced before (other than a couple injured) with the exception of youngsters Mount and Chalobah, with the one introduction of the long overdue Callum Wilson as a replacement centre forward, the perhaps surprise recall of Michael Keane plus of course Wayne Rooney for the friendly testimonial.

I'd guess Mount and Chalobah may be recall in a year or two when they have more experience.

Still surprised that one or two players such as Fabian Delph are still included and one or two such as Lewis Cook are not. But that's Southgate's choice !

I assume that the squad for Croatia will need to be slimmed down, and it maybe only then do we know who Southgate currently considers as his 'best squad' (other than the Leicester players and the couple of injured players who might have been included) - unless he rests the likes of Kane due to the WC resulting in him having no pre-season, which we would welcome but I highly doubt Southgate will rest him for a competitive fixture..

First E u18's call up for Paris Maghoma - last call up was in 2006 for E u16's

Players in red were in last squad but NOT in this one.
I'm guessing the Leicester players are not included due their former Chairman's funeral in Thailand which the Leicester players are attending.

GK
Jordan Pickford (Everton),
Jack Butland (Stoke City),
Alex McCarthy (Southampton)
Marcus Bettinelli (Fulham)

CB
Joe Gomez (Liverpool)
Harry Maguire (Leicester City),
John Stones (Manchester City),
James Tarkowski (Burnley),
Lewis Dunk (Brighton)
Michael Keane (Everton)

FB
Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool),
Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur) (injured),
Luke Shaw (Manchester United),
Kyle Walker (Manchester City), (also CB)
Kieran Trippier (Tottenham Hotspur),
Ben Chilwell (Leicester)

CM
Fabian Delph (Manchester City),
Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur),
Jordan Henderson (Liverpool),
Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Chelsea),
Ross Barkley (Chelsea)

Nat Chalobah (Watford)
Harry Winks (Spurs)
Mason Mount (Chelsea/Derby)

AM
Dele (Tottenham Hotspur),
Adam Lallana (Liverpool),
Jesse Lingard (Manchester United)
Raheem Sterling (Manchester City),
James Maddison (Leicester)
Jaden Sancho (Dortmund)

Striker
Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur),
Marcus Rashford (Manchester United),
Danny Welbeck (Woolwich)
Wayne Rooney (DC United)
Calllum Wilson (Bournemouth)

A brief update - Tarkowski, Maguire and Maddison were not included in the squad due to injuries. Injuries to the first two make the inclusion of Dunk and Keane very obvious - particularly with Alfie Mawson not having really settled at Fulham.

I assume Trippier will now withdraw after being subbed early in our match v Crystal Palace.

I am not sure where else to rant this but...

THIS INTERNATIONAL CALENDAR IS ABSOLUTELY FUCKED UP!!!!

How in the world is it normal that during the year, where internationals leave the club just to join their national teams after season then spend full month on WC from mid June to mid July will afterward BE AWAY AGAIN for TWO WEEKS IN THREE SUCCESSIVE MONTHS?!?! Who needs that shit ?!?!

Okay, make it then 2 months. Say Sept and Nov. But do not pierce the whole 1st half of the season?!? I mean there can't be any decent flow when it is such a start-stop bullsh*t taking place.

I mean literally league season goes like this -
- half of August
- half of September
- half of October
- half of November.

FOUR MONTHS in a row there are those "half-months". This is absurdly stupid system!!

As an aside we have the following senior players called up this international break -

Lloris, Gazanigga, Alderweireld, Foyth, Dier, Winks, Wanyama, Lamela, Eriksen, Kane, Moura, Son, Davies, Sissoko and Walker-Peters.

Injured - Rose, Trippier, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Dembele, Janssen, Amos, Onomah

That leaves Vorm, Llorente, Aurier (and possibly N'Koudou) for Poch and the coaches to train..........

Wasn't Son supposed to be exempt for the current call-up?

EDIT: yep- just checked. Son is not in South Korea's list for upcuming games.
Nor is Davies for Wales, and I cannot find ANY INFO (it is pissing me right off) about Eriksen involvement. However I google it, it shows the Denmark lineup for older fixtures!!

At the same time, Aurier is involved with his squad.

So the correct list would be :

Called up to squad : Lloris, Gazanigga, Alderweireld, Foyth, Dier, Winks, Wanyama, Lamela, Eriksen, Kane, Moura, Aurier, Sissoko, Walker-Peters.

Injured : Rose, Trippier, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Dembele, Janssen, Amos

Remaining players : Vorm, Llorente, Davies, N'Koudou, Son

Ok so Son out but Aurier in. I've seen Eriksen call up mentioned on Spurs site (hope he withdraws as he's not played much since his 'recovery' from injury so I assume he's 'fragile' and if we are not playing him much, maybe that should be true for Denmark
Davies suspended for first match but think he's with Wales squad

J’Neil Bennett, has his first call up, Luis Binks changes from Scotland (!) to join Maghoma in u18 squad

What annoys the cunt out of me is that this wank game vs the Septics is essentially a Wayne Rooney testimonial

I can't think of too many people wanting to shell out big money to watch it.

More to the point, given the stupid scheduling of the WC leading to many players having almost no pre-season, it would be respectful of the FA to give all WC players the match off so they have a bit of recovery time - only a fraction of what they should, but at least it would be something. Will that happen ? No - FA have no respect for the clubs and players they are abusing.

It's a bit galling that a squad who have just been to a World Cup semi-final are taking part in a testimonial game for a player who never achieved anything like that during his England career. I can only really remember Rooney either coming out of a long injury or being woefully out-of-form during international tournaments. Why is this being celebrated? Why is it now allowed for international matches to be used this way? How can it be justified to pause the domestic season for this? Rooney isn't exactly a universally-loved England legend, and so seems a really odd pick for this sort of thing. All this is surely going to do is make people even more pissed off with international football.
