Can we not go down this road again 😂 just let them have it.

Actually removes excuses for this summer because there isn’t a Romero/Kulusevski/Porro that can be added to inflate the net spend for the window…

Nothing less than 150m net should be accepted. Even those defending Levy budgets must surely agree on that.

It doesn't even matter anyway, it all counts as the same, it's still money spent but on separate balance sheets

Even if you don't count The Kulu and Porro fees then it's around £80m net but you go back one season and say we spent around £200m the season before or something like that.

Such a pointless debate 😆

agree, I'm just saying sometimes the perfect player for us is out there but it's going to cost us 100 million like Rice, are we the club to do the deal that's needed to raise our level, or are we still the club that will say nope and look for the "cheaper" 37 million plus add ons alt

We definitely have the money to do it, there's no question.

The question is who is that player?

Like you more or less knew that Alison and Van Dijk and Rice would move the team up levels where their teams will compete for years.

I wouldn't even begin to tell you who the equivalent is unless somehow Rodrigo becomes available and wants us or someone like that.

What is the worthwhile debate on transfer ambition?

Think everyone is pretty much agreed that we need quality players up front and at #6.

Unless our scouting is better than everyone else on the market, the more certain quality in those positions cost big fees and demand big wages.

As you say, we can afford both. The question is if we actually want to do it.

Not this

You can only really tell if we are ambitious or not after the fact i.e if the player is a success otherwise you might as well say Chelsea are the most ambitious club in the world over the last few years!

Olise and Eza i'd say for a start

perhaps adam wharton,

same like liverpool used to do to southampton with Mane, VVD. sometimes you've just to take mid table teams very best even if it costs crazy money

Fairs, Wharton isn't near that level anyway, guy's literally had about 10 matches in the Premier League

Anyway I'll re-iterate that neither player truly fit what we're in dire need of although I think Eze would be far more use to us as he can play in more than one position, Oliseh is much better at cutting in, we need someone to hold width.

agree on Wharton, looks a talent but it's not yet right to spend crazy to get him here. Unfortunately if he does remain consistent then we wont have a chance as bigger fish will take him

We already bought Bergvall for that reason, can't buy everyone I'm afraid.

Incidentally we have some incredible talent coming out of our academy who, given the right career path, can make their way into the first team in the next few years.

Bvergall needs to be a part of the first team squad. I want to see him fully integrated in pre-season and thrown in the deep end.

We’ve been pitiful at bringing youngsters into the team.

Any ideas on level for each position?

I have my wishes but my mind changes every time we are linked to a new player

I like Bakayoko at PSV - he's gettable if Williams isn't

Striker, dunno I've always liked Solanke or someone like Gyökeres (might be priced out of that one)

KWP I think can do a job as well.

As for the 6 if Ugarte is available then go and get him, other than that there's no stand outs for that role.

Not sure about that.

Liverpool weren't ambitious signing Nunez because he's a flop?

I would argue that Enzo was an ambitious signing for those cunts, just a very misguided one.

There's nothing ambitious about splashing willy nilly on players if you don't have a plan, it's like buying a Ferrari and not being able to support it buy paying for the maintenance and the insurance.

There was nothing ambitious about buying Ndombele for example, we were far more ambitious last Summer than the Summer of 2018 for example.
