Generational talents like those you have mentioned will always want to move on from us. The likes of Real, Barcelona and Bayern will be lights to a moth due to their history and power. It’d take us a couple of decades of being the top, or one of the top teams in Europe for us to enjoy a similar reputation.

I do think though that we tend to seem to collect players who are happy to get to the Spurs level and then relax. I’m not wholly convinced that’s a fault of the owners or Levy, maybe just because that’s the market we are operating in. What could Levy do to show ambition to the players? Provide them the very best facilities? A wonderful stadium to play in? Buy them for large transfer fees? He’s doing all that. Would they be more ambitious if he paid them more? I’d suggest the opposite. Should he make a speech at the start of each month? Again, I’d say that would have the opposite effect.

I’m asking honestly, as I’m never sure what the owners could do to show this ambition everyone says they are lacking. And I mean in practice, not just a vibe or attitude.

It’s happened far too often for there not to be a connection . What levy could do is have a clear direction , to get serious staff in who back up the ideology. It’s not about paying them more but that helps it’s about clarity & a concrete mindset of what the goals are. Ambition is not just money , it’s diligence & getting the right people in who you can trust to reach targets , it also involves a degree of risk but risk that is inspiring & exciting . We seem to plod along , it’s all very stale

it’s quite interesting that small clubs now like Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford and dare I say it Forest (who are not small but have been weak for such a long time) can quickly move past us. Before it was Liverpool or Woolwich zipping past when they went from being shit to good, now it’s everyone’s granny.

Isn’t the stadium and training ground a long term plan? Investing in the very best facilities to get the very best from the players?

In any missive that arrives (COYS Daniel) he talks about the wish to compete at the very top.

He’s hired Munn (no idea about his credibility or ability, but none of us do) and Lange (seems to have a decent reputation in the game). Hired a manager who seemed to offer us the winning and attractive football we wanted (obviously hasn’t worked). But Levy does seem to be trying to do things differently. And spending money doing them.

What I’d like to see is underperforming players getting shifted quicker. And replacements coming in faster. I’d suggest those alone would affect the mindset of the players more. Play to your very best, or you’re gone.

I’d also like to see us offer someone like McKenna or Potter (too late now), £5m a year salary to manage our u21/youth teams to ensure we have a pipeline of younger talent coming through to either hit the first team or sell for PSR profit.

An example in NFL is Dan Campbell at the Detroit Lions. They were shit for a very long time. Campbell came in and quickly changed their whole attitude and ambition expectations. It can be done if everyone shares and drives that ambition.

Look at Forest a club in the mud now flying. Aggressive cultural change and investment could quickly fix us.

Levy and co aren't going anywhere anytime soon. The club is no longer just a football club, it's now an entertainment business with a football team in the background.

It's a cash cow. The wage bill is incredibly low compared to the income. With the extra circular events such as NFL, rugby, concerts, F1 go karting and whatever else they can convince to come then the shareholders will be in no rush to sell up, unless there's a stupidly large offer, we're talking 3-4b easy.

They'll add a couple of signings each summer to keep fans semi excited, and a few youngsters to look forward to, but they'll never fully commit. It's always been a 'well we're doing well as we are' attitude, they never have and never will capitalise on a strong point like Forest are, and Woolwich will be doing.

This is who the club is now, we can protest all we want but they're never big enough. The ones fan groups try to organise have only a few hundred fans turn up, not the thousands needed. Fans will still turn up to the stadium, wearing replica shirts just bought in the club shop.. Even if fans decide not to go, tourists will lap those tickets up quickly and clap along regardless of the result, as long as they get to see Sonny or whoever they really support.

European places are no longer the be all for this ownership, just a place in the premier league, even though we'll be told by Ali Gold and others that due to non European competition we can't afford as much in the transfer windows.


It's similar to Mike Ashley at Newcastle now.. It'll only get worse.

We can all rightfully criticize Ange for any number of things, but the greatest argument for keeping Ange in his seat is that Levy is such a cunt that no manager will work so it really doesn’t matter if it’s Ange or not.

Don’t get me wrong, there will always be someone who will fill the void but it will never be because they believe in the club and project, only because the payday will be too nice to pass up, that’s it. We could opt to push the wages boat out and would still not attract quality.

We fish in the same pond as Woolwich, Chelsea, Liverpool, United or City and we'll be the last dog at the bowl. That calibre of player aims to win trophies and won't pick a club that's won 3 in 34 years.

So if we can't attract that level of player why bother spending more on wages? Just end up like United with overpaid mid tier players that aren't good enough to get you to the top and on high wages become very hard to shift out.

The Mike Ashley comparison is becoming more and more relevant as time goes by. At least Ashley was always looking for a way out. And of course found one that benefitted the club hugely. (Who has the happier fan base now?)
Levy, on the other hand, seems happy to continue milking the cow and isn't even looking for an exit route.

Spot on.

There will always be a section of fans who are fully Spurs and give dogs abuse to Levy and co. But a large portion is now the tourists and day trippers. Exactly what the board want.
