I was jokingWell Man City were in the 2nd tier when ENIC bought Spurs, and now they're the most successful club in the world over the past 5+ years.
The point was just that a lesser club with much greater financial restrictions than even ENIC place on turnover:spending has managed to win several trophies over ENIC's tenure. So even aside from the whinging about spending, they've been beaten to the punch by a club that somehow manages to instill belief in the squad that they can fight and win big matches in big moments...meanwhile we just always seem to come up short.
Whether it's an important cup match, a final, or just a big league match which gives us an opportunity to climb into/cling onto the race...we serially spit the bit. Across a half dozen managers and completely different squads. The habitual coming up short is in the air at Tottenham the past decade.

I read an article about Poch, in which he said that the owners were celebrating reaching the final as if they had won it. They did not have the desire to win it, getting to the final was what they wanted.
But then they did back him that summer, Ndombele and Lo Celso. Poch can take responsibility for those two

Poch also came out on the eve of the final and basically said he was done with the club and signing off on a high if we won the match...so I think everyone has some regrets about the build up to that match.

I get that the owners celebrated getting to the final. I don’t understand them not wanting to win it. How does that make any sense?
They obviously would want to win it. But they don’t want to win it enough to do what it takes or risk any of their own money to get there. They’re content with just being there at the final and competing at that top table because the difference between that and winning stuff financially isn’t that huge.
Our owners fundamentally view success as being stable. Finishing top four, some decent cup runs, a sustainable wage bill and nice, neat transfer spend with the fat trimmed off. That’s us succeeding to ENIC.
