Seemingly, we can infer that Eric doesn't want to leave the club this window, and I'd be gobsmacked if we gave him a new contract, so he'll be off for free next summer.
In some respects, thank god we're not in Europe this season and can therefore minimise the amount we need to use Dier (if at all). Honestly, he's a nice guy and I fear for how vitriolic the crowd might get towards him if he's allowed to play for any extended period of time.

I'd say the only caveat to that is VDV potentially filling in at LB if required, which may increase the chance of a Dier appearance, but otherwise I agree.
