Tbh I'm quite enjoying it all now, the hypocrisy from FIFA, UEFA Sky, Bt , FA,premier League , like any of those cunts ever gave a shit about the fans.
Let's be honest, the real reason UEFA, etc. are throwing a tantrum is because they will be losing out on money and some of these executives probably make stupid money to make terrible changes to the game and do fuck all.

One side is as bad as the other.

Like I have pointed out in other posts, with the additional spots awarded based upon coefficients, it saves teams like United and Liverpool from falling out.

Edit: To be clear, if the rules were in place this season and it ended today, Woolwich would qualify ahead of us (we would also get a spot I believe).

Would constant failure to qualify not mean you are kicked out though?

Without reading it in detail surely a couple seasons mid table will see you kicked out

I can't seem them holding out forever, same with PSG. Maybe waiting to see if they can get more favorable terms or wanting to see the potential fall-out from it. If this does keep progressing and the league looks like to really take off, they'll ultimately want in.
Absolutely. They just want to see it take flight, then they can go back to the fans and say "we tried to hold out".

The French clubs are gonna be all over this shit now though. I really expect Marseilles and Lyon to be announced in short order.

It's still going to be stat padded to ensure that those clubs can "hang on" for as long as possible.

And coefficient points are earned through all the UEFA comps.

So if you drop out of the CL and have to play EL football you still earn the coefficient points.

I notice Glazer is one of the unholy 3 promoting this crap.
Another case of letting Americans get involved and dragging something down to new levels. Always money. money, money. They ruin everything they get involved in.

I liked what Neville had to say but that one bit of an independent regulator rankled me.

I'm sure those clubs in the National League wish there was an independent regulator to stop Salford having 5 millionaire friends and their billionaire partner bankrolling their way up the leagues. Paying £6K a week to get players to drop down to League 2.

No, as bad as UEFA is, the ESL is much worse. Will drive thousands of smaller clubs into bankruptcy.

Why? UEFA gives almost nothing - this was the big 2020 plan "UEFA will invest €44 million into grassroots football development over the next four years" .... think about that €44 million for the whole of Europe over four years from an organisation that turns over €3.8 billion a year .... that's like Spurs giving the local hospice twenty quid ....

Frankly the ESL would be hard pressed to do any worse ... UEFA have destroyed the game at the lower level whilst enriching itself and it's chosen few elites ... how soon we forget.

As for Bayern, Dortmund and PSG they are the three as yet "unnamed" clubs, not sure why they are holding back, miss this boat and they're finished as a top European clubs, they simply won't have the finances or players left to compete.

Sky spent at least a decade trying to make CL qualification from the PL a closed shop......their precious Top 4 are still involved, you'd think they would be delighted.

That shouldn't be forgotten. They would scoff at the idea that anyone outside the Top 4 could break in before any season started. They glorified in what became to all intents and purposes a closed shop prior to us busting it open.

That 44 million euros doesn't count the prize money that smaller clubs get for entry into CL and Europa. The ESL is a move to ensure that the elite clubs get an even higher proportion of the revenue... this cash injection isn't going to happen by magic.

Being against the UEFA so supporting the ESL is like saying that you dislike serial killers so we may as well nuke random villages.

Spoken like a true serial killer concerned only with self preservation.

Come on - own up.
Ahhh I miss totti. Glad he’s ok

This is why I’m starting to feel a bit apathetic about it. I suspect it will all play out alright in the end anyway. I’m more concerned who our new manager will be and winning on Wednesday and definitely Sunday. Once what is going to happen is more certain I’ll get a bit more animated about it but until then it’s just a lot of dick swinging and posturing in the media.

Apathetic is a good way to describe how I'm feeling as well. I don't like it but the veneer of the game being about passion, merit, and of the fans was paper thin for a long time now. It's just a natural conclusion of what was started in game at least 20 years ago.

They tried to implement FFP but were probably a decade or two late to the game, and there was never any teeth to it anyways. The governing bodies have been cramming in more friendlies, more worthless competitions, more games per competition, more teams participating in them, and doing it at the expense of the players and the clubs that really make it all work all so they can line their pockets. The clubs that make that system work have finally had enough and are taking their destiny into their own hands.

I'm not defending the ESL and think that it is an overall negative for the game. BUT I also accept that the clubs are fully within their rights to take back control, and none of the governing bodies have a single moral leg to stand on.

Everyone can say what they want about this, but we will all watch it. I'd definitely rather watch Spurs play Real Madrid every season more than I'd like to watch us play Burnley.
With respect, this is because you are a fan who watches the games on TV. If you are a hardcore fan that does the away games, then you reject this league because it threatens to end this way of life. Which is about following your local team across the country with your mates/family and supporting them from the terraces. Of course we all like to go to Madrid once every few years for a CL or EL game but no one can afford to go to 15 away games in Europe every season, especially in the era of Covid and global warming in which air travel will most likely be restricted. Away fans as a concept would die out and be replaced by a bigger TV audience and more corporates.

The question is whose game is it? The TV fan, the corporate, or the die-hard local lad/lass who has followed their team through thick and thin?

Give me a cold rainy night in Burnley any day of the week (incidentally the last game I went to was basically this).

All fair points.
