Match Fulham v. Tottenham - March 4 18:00 GMT

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Playing against a team high on energy, desperate for survival, on a tight little pitch like that, I think we did very well to get all 3 points.

It’s a fair point. I think if this result and performance had come in one of the seasons where we were in 2nd or third place we’d have said good result, won when not playing well, sign of a good team etc
That said the second half was rancid.

I think this result was bigger than the Burnley one. We were made to work hard for this, Fulham are better than their position suggests.

Why is everyone bitching about their disallowed goal?
Its like moaning about the state of the pitch, saying it cost us/them the game.
Both teams played and were judged by the same rule book, no matter what we all think of it.
If someone decides that players now have to play in frogmans flippers and top hats then as long as both teams have to, thats the rules and we all get on with it.

Fair enough but until we address the problem, this is what we get.
Goals against Ludogorets, Plovdiv, Schkendia, Maccabi, Antwerp, Saints, WBA, West Ham, Stoke, Palace, Leeds, Fulham, Sheff Utd, Burnley, Man U (16th at the time) Woolwich

Pretty sure Vinny could pull that off
The problem is not as big as you suggest it is though.
You are advocating pulling the leagues 3rd top scorer, who has the highest assist rate and who can pass the ball better than the best midfielders in the league.

Im absolutely certain that Vinny can't do that.

Might as well drop him because you don't like his hair cut.

IFAB Handball Rule 2020: For those who think Fulham was robbed

IFAB have also issued a reminder that a player cannot score a goal with their arm, even if it is accidental.

An accidental handball by an attacking player or team-mate will only be penalised if it occurs immediately before a goal or a goalscoring opportunity.

If an attacking player accidentally touches the ball with their hand or arm and then scores a goal, or the ball goes to another attacking player and they immediately score, this is a handball offence.

But it is not a handball offence if after an accidental handball the ball travels some distance via a pass or a dribble, or there are several passes before the goal or goalscoring opportunity.
Yes, the ref applied the handball rule correctly, but the handball rule is currently rubbish. Everybody knows that.
If we lived in a normal, reasonable football world, Fulham's goal would not have been disallowed. They were denied a perfectly good goal by the correct implementation of a shit rule.

COYS :)

It's about time we had a bit of luck.

We can dress it up as 3rd highest scorer etc, but the teams are laid bare.
He’s scored against two teams currently above us, who were below us when he scored against them. We’re 8th.

The rest of his goals have been between 10th and bottom

That’s back up striker stuff

Or nothing intelligent about your understanding of the application of it?
No. There was nothing deliberate about it and handball is about or at least should be about the deliberate manipulation of the ball and not awarded just because it hits the arm in its natural position parallel to the torso. There was no manipulation involved yesterday. Common sense has to play a part.

That's true, but as most as us consider ourselves football purists we don't like to see it, the same as diving really.

I do absolutely see your point Mick, but you must agree that if all players were made to wear that attire, it would spoil the potential skill on offer, introduce too much luck into the game, and therefore cease to become a battle to see who the best football team is. On a similar topic, I've never liked penalties as a way to decide a game, but was never sure what to do instead - a mate in the pub suggested once why not just toss a coin at the end of the game. I explained that it would be a stupid way to decide the winner of a football match - can you guess his response? "Why, it would be equally fair on both teams, and they'd know the rules before they started the match so they couldn't complain".

My point is, just being 'fair to both teams' i.e. 'applying the same rules for everyone' doesn't necessarily make it the best way to determine the winner of a football match. Yes what happened yesterday was the correct application of the law as it stands, and I can see what they are trying to do - clearly they want to remove the subjectivity of whether or not an act was deliberate in order to avoid people arguing about it - but instead all they have achieved is people arguing about the stupidity of having such an objective rule with no room for refereeing judgment. Personally I'd prefer the former...

I don't think there is any definitive right or wrong there, it's all a matter of opinion. But for me personally, I'd prefer it how it was a few years ago - let the ref make the decision with all the common sense he can muster, knowing that he is a human being and intent is a subjective concept etc, and therefore accept that we won't like some decisions.

Anyway, all that aside, it really is about time we had some good luck. I know we've had some in past seasons, but we've had some rotten luck this season, both with decisions and other things. For example, we surely deserved something from the spammers game, hitting both post and bar. And the penalty against Newcastle was the greatest injustice I've felt from a match for as long as I can remember (perhaps 23rd June 1986...? Or Pedro Mendes 'goal'? Nani's goal v Gomes? Let's not bring back those dark memories... lol) :)
