A lot of people obviously care that the BBC has done something wrong and its relationship with the tories has been pissing people off for years, and this is the outcome of all that, not just this one incident.
However, like you said, these pundits are a bunch of champagne socialists who don't give a fuck about migrants or morality beyond sticking it to the tories. If Labour was doing this shit, they'd be a lot less vocal, granted that Labour would be more subtle about it.
We saw that with the border prisons in America, a lot of shrieking when Trump did it, but Biden has largely continued the same policies and the media has gone quiet. What many of these people object to is the harsh language and the people doing the act, not the act itself.
