Ex-Spurs Player Giovani Lo Celso

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He’s still picked for Argentina and just won the copa America. He isn’t homegrown and has had a lot of injury issues so the majority on here think he’s shit. Streets ahead of the likes of Skippy and Mason

As if being called up to play whenever fit for the reigning world and double Copa America champions is an accident. As long as he goes abroad then it is what it is, imo we would have won more points last season if he would have got more game time instead of Maddison.

He was mostly coming on for 10 minutes at the end of matches so those numbers really mean fuck all. He only ever played against tired legs and even then 500 minutes is absolutely pathetic.

Yeah you're right.

Also coming on late distorts the stats because if you come one after 70' and the match goes to 90+10' then you've actually played 30 minutes, but the stats get recorded as 20 minutes.

Still, 310 of his 506 minutes were as part of starting lineup.

Anyway the point is, his availability was poor, his stats were decent when he played (even allowing for the above), but Ange lost confidence in him for whatever reason. After Bournemouth NYE match he was only ever used as a late sub.

Estadio Deportivo (don’t know how good the source is) are reporting that Betis won’t pay a fee and that Lo Celso has turned down Villa.

If that’s the case, keep him at the end of the bench for wet League Cup ties in Stoke.

He doesn’t quite fit in our system though, doesn’t have the physicality to be one of the 2 deeper lying midfielders and not quite suited to our no.10 roll. Think he’s a good player and we’ve under utilised him when fit though.

We haven’t under-utilised him. He has consistently shown that his body cannot endure more than 10 minutes of PL football. It is not possible to use him any more than we have without him getting crocked.

On literally his first start of last season with a full preseason behind him, he had to be subbed off at HT and disappeared for weeks.

Players suffer injuries. Why would his national team constantly pick him? Whilst a lot of fans wanked over skipp and wanted more game time. GLC should’ve been given some decent minutes. Especially when Maddison was stinking the place out, tweak things up a little but messiah Ange couldn’t let his ego do that on occasion to mix things up.

2023/24,

4 starts in PL and 18 sub appearances, total about 500 playing minutes (and about 10 matches missed through various injuries)

2 starts in domestic cups (1 in league cup, one FA Cup) played 45 mins and 58 mins respectively

No real surprise, given that Lo Celso has ONLY completed 90 minutes playing time in a PL match about 17 times - under Poch, Mourhino, Conte, Mason and now Ange

An awful playing record over 5 years at Spurs. Not good enough as a no 10 nor a CM either

Hopefully give his playing time next season to an academy youngster to help develop him for the future.

Last season missed 10 matches through injury? How many did some of the golden boys miss? How many of our youngsters would get called up to the Argentina squad if they were eligible? If the youngsters are good enough they’ll play, we haven’t produced any bar Kane for 10 years+. Hopefully this season that changes.

He's had years at this club to produce and there's always been excuses.

Fact is he's failed to deliver in that time and all the new theories and hindsight bias still can't properly explain why he's been so difficult to shift.

Lo Celso's injury record is horrendous in EVERY season he's been at Spurs- including last season

Yes you are correct - usually fit to play for Argentina but NOT for Spurs.

Went to Argentina matches after just 2 sub outings about 2 months into his Spurs career against Spurs medical advice (injured when joining Spurs). And came back from international matches ... with another f'cking injury.

Total lack of honesty towards the club paying his wages. Total CUNT - only question is whether Ndombele or Lo Celso worse

A disgrace to his profession

Yes he hasn’t been as available as much as we would like but when he has he hasn’t been given a decent chance. Just annoys me that if he was a homegrown player with inferior ability fans wouldn’t be saying the same.

One gets picked for their elite national team when he’s fit. The other got 2 caps when he was fit and is now 6 stone heavier. Which do you think was worse?

Ledley was always injured, was it his fault? His injury record with us every season was horrendous. Was he a disgrace to his profession?

I guess even saving on his wages would be some savings. If they want to take him on a free with a 50% sell on clause, at this point, fine by me. Gio is a stubborn prick who has shown he is willing to sit out rather than move to a club he doesn’t want to go to, so we should try and work with that if we hope to recoup anything from him.
