What am I talking about?...
There are plenty of goalies who can pull off eye-catching, goal-stopping reaction saves, but a goalie needs to be able to do much more than that.
He needs to be able to dominate and command the box at corner kicks and set pieces. He needs to be strong and dominant (that word again) when coming out to challenge an approaching attacker. He needs to be decisive with the ball at his feet, not ponderous. He needs to be sharp and perceptive when distributing the ball, not just ping it gently to an opposition player. He needs to be able to hoof the ball up the pitch when needed (I'm not sure I've ever seen him do that). Finally, he needs to build a strong reputation - and we all know the rep Vicario has built for himself, don't we?
Vicario can do none of the above things.
That's what I'm talking about. He's not a great keeper. He's a slightly above average keeper.
