Ex-Spurs Player Harry Kane

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I have no idea what that means.
Context means feck all.
H has the most assists in the major Leagues.
It means he's benefited more from quality finishing from his teammates.

xAssists give little credit to passes that added little value ie. Jan's pass to Sonny when Sonny dribbled through Burnley's defense. xAssists is a better indicator of a player's true playmaking ability.

It's like comparing goals vs xGoals.

What he's saying is that it counts less in his opinion if Kane gets an assist for a 40 yard ball and Son then converts a relatively hard chance, than if a player had squared a ball for another player to tap into an empty net from 2 yards, so the player who "created" the easier chance deserves more credit. This is how the minds of stat nonces work.

And if you see Kane's assist stats from prior years you can see that his assist total during the first dozen games or so this season was just a fluke/anomaly. Not at all a criticism at Kane because he's meant to be a goalscorer but putting things in context for those that are getting overly excited about his assist total.

If you'd like to get triggered, by all means, please do.

Nobody gives a fuck what you think. I know Kane is one of the best passers in world football. I don't need stats to tell me that because I understand football better than you. Stats are just for people who know fuck all about football. So stick your J Evans Ptritchard Xg bollocks where the sun doesn't shine.

I get that. But we've all seen Harry's assists and they're proper quality. Which ones were deemed of lesser quality? I see numbers but I'm not seeing specifics.

The importance of xAssists is that it takes into account great/poor finishing by teammates.

Most of his assists were quality but that’s not what I’m pointing out here. I’m pointing out the fact that he’s benefited from great finishing from other Spurs players which has contributed to his outsized assist number this season. Had there been other poorer finishers at the end of those passes, he may have had far less assists.

So if a player makes a great pass but his teammate flubs the finish, the one that made the pass would still be credited with some positive xAssist number.

It works the other way too, meaning if there was a lot of work to be done by the goalscorer and/or he received the ball in a position where he’s unlikely to score, then the passer would be credited relatively less xAssists points. For instance, Kane’s assist to Son’s Woolwich goal would receive little credit. There are probably others I can’t think of off the top of my head

It’s obviously not an exact science but all else being equal, it’s a smart and objective way at looking at a players contributions to actual and potential assists.

Gotcha.

No what’s he’s saying is that some muppets like to laud assists to the point they include Dele missing an open goal from three yards that he blasted into the grounded keepers face and Ndombele tucked in the rebound

While they called all Trippiers perfect crosses hopeful punts into the box
