Ex-Spurs Player Harry Winks

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Harry Winks (Oliver Skipp, 72)
Back on the pitch as he came on to help see the game out with 18 minutes remaining. Played a very good ball over the top that culminated with Markus Schubert seeing red. Really good cameo from the player. 7

So much salt, it will be glorious!!

I'll admit I don't think he's good enough and would like him to move on but there's something in me that wants him to win and turn his form around purely because of the meltdown on here.

He could adapt the pressing system I guess. Have Kane drop deep and let someone like Hojbjerg or Skipp take his place in the initial press. Or use Harry like how Valverde used Suarez, and have him cut off passing lanes rather than press the player with the ball.

I am confident that Antonio will find a solution.
Ndombele is also a fantastic presser, probably the most effective given his style. He's very quickly into the press as he's an explosive player over 5-10yrds, low centre of gravity, maintains this during the press with knees bent etc..gives him the ability to twist and turn zero in on the oppo player rooting him (i think this is also contributing to him getting gassed, this is the most knackering way to press).

So the conundrum is do you want him deep to progress the ball from there or do you want him as part of the press up the top of the pitch, he's also very good in that roaming 10 pocket. BUT think that this 10 pocket best suits Kane, especially if runs are made beyond him.

The problem is and the only thing I hate about Kane is without his press (so all the forwards pressing coherently) we don't look as good, we lose control of the game.

Agreed. The pressing from the forwards needs to be resolved somehow.

Have you never seen Winks repeatedly pass the ball straight back to whatever CB gave it to him? That's why his pass success rate was so high. Conte is never gonna tolerate that shit.
He is a player made for Conte’s patterns based football.

Watch every Conte team. There are very strict ball retention patterns, starting from the back, these are rehearsed patterns and are repeatable through all of the sides he's coached.

Why would there be a meltdown if he starts playing like a boss. We want our players to play well, not shit. The meltdown happens because he is shite almost every time he plays.

Its sounding little like those enicbots/levylovers who say things like "if Levy invested 500million and we won the quadruple , you'd still complain" That makes no sense, the complaint is for the need to invest and win something. Why would you complain when you are getting what you want.

Was better than skipp and hojberg combined. Disgraceful the treatment he gets as a youth product. Agree he might not be the answer but I cant get my head around the hate for a player that has been at the club since 10

The facts that he’s a youth product and has been at the been at the club since he was 10 is completely irrelevant

It’s what he does on the pitch and he’s an embarrassment to the club

A little boy trying to play with the men

Well we will see the reaction, if he starts playing well then we'll all be happy having said that people on this site and amongst our fanbase clearly have agendas and cannot wait to stick the boot into certain players, Winks is definitely one of them.

I removed your 2nd paragraph for the sake of the debate because it's needless and just a whole load of nonsense wasn't it? I'm sure you're better than that :)

Why would anyone have an agenda against Winks . He hasnt hurt anyone, killed anyone or said anything nasty. People have just seen him play shite almost every game that they dont believe in him at all anymore. If he plays like the next Modric, we are all here for it. But we all know he wont, because he cant.

Is that even a real question?

There's agendas flying everywhere in almost every thread, it just so happens that a lot of our fanbase don't rate Winks which is fair enough but they have already made up their mind and probably have gotten used to the idea of the club moving him on. So the idea of him playing well or staying in the team doesn't sit right right with them and will use any sort of confirmation bias against him despite playing well because it doesn't suit their own argument against said player.

Winks isn't the only one that gets it by the way but is one of the main ones.

People just dont want to see a really shite player get yet another chance to then disappoint yet again and us losing/dropping points as a result of it. That is the real agenda - they want the team to succeed. And theyve seen enough of Winks to realise that he causes more harm than good.

Okay we will see, you're probably right but I'm here for the melties if Conte uses him and we start winning as a result 😆

It's called cognitive dissonance.

Are people seriously getting carried away with last night?

This was in a 3rd rate cup competition. Most of the starting 11 had played United on the Saturday where as Winks has had his feet up.

One long ball over the top for a wide player to chase doesn't make him Hoddle or Pirlo. Pretty much anyone on the pitch, for either team can kick a ball into space. If Royal doesn't chase it just looks like a silly loss of possession. If the keeper just heads it out for a throw it's a nothing moment.

If Winks can learn from Conte, great. I doubt he can at this stage, but I'll wait

But last night was not a game to start getting your hopes up. I'd take more from Lucas actually scoring a goal and having a few shots than anything. Or Royal and Reguilon providing width.
