Ex-Spurs Player Harry Winks

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

As someone who criticised him a lot after his form in the last two years, I have to praise him for the way he's played since Conte has come in. He's been controlled in possession, has often broke the lines with incisive passing and worked his socks off on the defensive side.

Those that are unable to acknowledge his or Diers form since Contes arrival have decided he is the whipping boy regardless of how he plays.

They have been better.
But they were a long, long, long way from good. So being better doesn't make them good all of a sudden.

Four questions causing uncertainty for Tottenham's Harry Winks amid Antonio Conte's new arrivals

Harry Winks has had an up and down season so far and although he is now finding form, he still has a battle ahead of him to secure consistent game time

Expecting this to be an unpopular opinion, but I like (even rate) Winksy and I want him to stay.

Yeah sure, he's no Pirlo/Iniesta/Modric/Gerrard and he'll likely never develop into an elite MF...but that doesn't mean he's useless and should be shipped out.

He has his qualities...he always give 100%, he's a grafter who doesn't care about taking on better & stronger players, he defends, he has clever passes in his locker. And he's Spurs through and through. That, to me, is as important as what he does on the pitch. You need players who know everything about the club and who dearly love the institution. Winksy does. I'd rather that than some expensive foreign signing who's a better footballer but who's not gonna give two shits about the club and what it means.

So yeah, I don't see him good enough to start, especially in a two-man midfield, but I think we should defo keep him. There's far worse to have on our bench as cover.

Great post but you're essentially saying he isn't good enough for us but is a nice guy so it's great to have him around as a backup option should better players get injured.

Depends on how much he loves the club but I think he would thrive at a lower league club where he starts every week. There is a pattern with Winks' career with every new manager and it needs to be broken for everybody's sake.

That's not exactly what I said, though.

I said he's no superstar and yeah there are better starting options out there, but he still brings loads to the table, and not just his love & deep knowledge of the club.

To be successful nowadays if you're a club like Spurs, I do believe you need a strong and deep squad...circa 20-25 players that will all contribute positively, in their own ways. We can't afford passengers the way a City or Liverpool can.

And look at some of the best teams in history. Yes, they had 3 or 4 superstars who could produce some magic at any time, but they also had those unsexy names next to them and they were the ones doing the dirty work and in the end allowing the stars to focus solely on their thing.

The great AC Milan teams of the late 80s/early 90s had icons like Van Basten and Gullit, but they also super reliable guys like Tassotti.

Back in the day, Barca had the likes of Bakero, Ferrer, Sergi...to help out Romario and Stoichkov.

Juve had Ferrara, Pessotto...it wasn't all Zidane and Del Piero.

France from 1998-2000 had Zizou, Henry, Trezeguet, Djorkaeff...sure, but look how much guys like Deschamps, Karembeu or Boghossian contributed to their success.

Closer to home...I despise Man Utd, but would they have achieved all that success in the 90s and early noughties without their good soldiers like Butt, Phil Neville, O'Shea and others ready to step in and fight for the Beckhams, Coles, Cantonas, Van Nistelrooys? I doubt, and I think Sir Alex would too.

Winksy is no Kroos, Vieira, Xavi, Scholes or Seedorf...but we don't need him to be. If he can only contribute to us the way those great servants mentioned above did, well that's already plenty. And in my opinion, he can be just that for us.

He’d do well at Leyton Orient imv

Where's all the winks fans that were sucking him off telling us we was all wrong because he played a couple of average games where he played a couple of forward passes instead of his usual shit.

yet again this little boy plays and we get mullered for most of the game! why? because we got a little scared weak pathetic boy bang in the middle of the pitch who offers us fuck all! its football suicide!

Absolutely dreadful, one of the worst players on the pitch (and there was a few to pick today).

What does he actually do?
He certainly isnt a ball winner or defensive mid.

He gives away possession and is terrible under pressure and hides in games.
That's kind of a big issue when you are a midfielder.

Get rid once and for all in the summer
