Fakin hell the knee jerking is hilarious

Everyone knows that Son is poor against low blocks so all this revisionism about him not being a striker is bollocks.

You might as well not call Haaland a striker, he's even worse when he's been marked and has no space to run into.

zero aggressiveness. no desire to score
every touch in the box, he either pass backward or sideway.
played like a total coward.

One of the few players who can score from 20 yards but he always opted for a pass back to Werner or Johnson like the typical coward he is.

Sarr had more shots on target and he came on in the 70th minute.

It's pretty obviously other way around. STRIKER is exactly what he is.

TARGET MAN is not what he is. Those are two different things.
Also talking about things and people Sonny is not - he is not HARRY KANE either, who could play as ST but also drop deep, receive the ball and then play angled- or through-pass to teammates.

It is not so much on Son, but it is on Ange how to efficiently use him. Yesterday it was painful mismanagement in regards of Sonny. Not only was his performance absolutely uninfluential, but even worse - at times he dropped to same position as Madders and interrupted his play as well.

Agree with this. How can someone who has scored 160+ goals for us not be a striker? He's one of the best we've ever had in that position.

What we could do with is a target man to drop deep and link play, at the very least this player will give us options. I am not saying he is the answer for us but I watched Brentford vs Man United the other night and was much impressed by Ivan Toney - he really bullies defences (somehow without fouling them), the defenders know they've been in a game and he can link play as well as score. They are hard to find but someone in that mould would be ideal.

I think we need a player like that as well as Sonny.

Lampard scored a lot of goals doesn't make him a striker. Ronaldo scored how many goals from the left wing starting position? You can be able to score goals and not be a striker which is what he's done for the majority of his career. When has he ever been outstanding upfront against a team that plays how west ham played last night. It's too crowded you can't put balls in to him and he doesn't have the space to get his shots of in.

But none of that means Son isn't a striker, you are comparing apples with oranges here.

We all know Son likes to run into space and doesn't do well against low blocks, that's always been the case. It doesn't mean he isn't a striker it's just his style. Haaland struggled the other day when he was closely marked. Is he not a striker too? Conversely there are strikers who tend to do better in those kind of situations.

The facts and statistics tell you everything you need to know here, Son's record speaks for itself. Give him space and chances and he will score goals.

A true striker that can play the position can produce against any kind of system and find ways. It's a specialist position. Son is great but he's most definitely not an out and out striker. He would do better playing close to or off of a proper striker no doubt but he's not that main guy there imo.

You are describing a target man, there are different ways to play the position - different players have different attributes of course.

Son is a forward for sure, not a classic no 9 granted but I would say he qualifies as a striker. Whether we also need someone who will bring the qualities you describe here is a fair question.

I don't think you'll ever get the best out of son with him playing with his back to goal it's not his game. There can be certain rare occasions where it can pay to play him as a striker but overall I think week in week out he doesn't have the correct attributes to play it consistently well. You want him last night a couple of yards off the back line receiving the ball facing the goal with the time to get his shots off.

If you think Aguero & Zlatan were essentially the same players..... Or Firmino & Dzeko; then it's obvious where the problem lies.

Seemed a bit passive...then again didnt help that the team created nothing the entire game.
thats largely down to the front 3. that front 3 is a poor fit against a side happy to camp in their 18 yard box. easy game doing that especially when you dont have anyone in the box whos going to attack crosses.

get richarlison in the box and flood the box with crosses...something is going to give. not rocket science. we havent got messi and iniesta who are going to twinkle their way through 6 players in close quarters.

He looked tired....... I mean playing in Korea to Thailand resting 3 days playing full 90 and then another 90 in another 2 days.... He is 32 now not 28. If we are still relying on him every game to win......we are still far away from a title race.

The way we play under Ange, an old school traditional target man striker such as Haaland, Ibrahimovic wouldn't work.

Our striker needs to press, track back and run non stop and should expect to get 50-60 touches in a game.

It only works for City since they have a squad of world class players to carry Haaland. Pep would have much preferred Kane.

Prime Ibra would fuck shit up in any team.
