Player Heung-Min Son (손흥민)

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Some of the criticism of Son in this thread is fully warranted, but there is a lesson to be learned here for many. Even at his very best, you couldn't rely on him to bring the ball with him. Never a world-class footballer. Never was. Never will be. But goal-and-assist tallies make fools of people.

He's very good, but he's not world class in my opinion; he's too inconsistent for that. I also don't think he's particularly strong mentally, but in some ways I love that about him.
I think he feeds off the energy around him (as most people do) so if the environment is negative like it was when Mourinho was here and still is now then it drags him down too. That's why I think we need to wait another season before we think about moving him on. I think with a positive coach playing more attacking football we'll see the best of Son again. If we don't then let him go next summer.

I think it's unfair to judge our players on this season alone as it's been an absolute mess. Some players have had poor years, but have the potential to do better whereas some players are just genuinely not good enough. Let's clear out the latter before we start worrying about the former. It's going to be hard selling players this summer so we don't want to spend the summer negotiating the sales of Kane and Son then not have time left to move on the likes of Aurier, Dier, Winks and Sissoko.

Whether it's because he's disillusioned or gone stale, there's no excuse for not giving it your all, for every game. I accept it's not always going to work, but you have to try. This is not levelled just at Sonny, but most of our current squad. They are pampered, spoilt individuals who are paid a King's ransom to do a job they profess to love. Just get on with it. If you don't like it, then go elsewhere. I'm tired of players who show us such disrespect that they are happy to take their salary whilst getting splinters in their backsides, rather than go elsewhere for less.
Is it just us that gets this from players,or does it happen as much elsewhere.
We seem to get it a lot.

Really?

That’s one thing I dislike about him.

Yep, only in some ways though.
I like that he shows his emotions because it shows that he cares about the club and results, but at the same time I hate that he's not mentally strong enough to ignore what's going on around him and rise above things. He's too easily affected by what's going on around him and isn't strong enough to be a game changer.
I acknowledge that my view is probably different to most others on here as this is a male dominated forum. I expect the general consensus around here is that men shouldn't cry, but I disagree.

Doesnt mean you don’t run at all or put effort in though does it?

I would have dropped him months ago. Needs a kick up the arse like the lot of them if you ask me.
Brian has hit the nail on the head. We all have our challenges in life and yet we all have to cope. If I don't make a fair effort at work, I get fired. It is that simple. I am sure it is exactly the same for many of you. These guys are professional athletes and should be used to pressure. They know they have a responsibility to give it their all every time they put on that shirt. We all can have a bad day, fair enough. Nobody is perfect. But the important thing is you have to try. These lads are not trying. There is no passion. This is where in my opinion management has made a huge mistake and let these players get away with this diva attitude.

Whenever a player of mine in Football Manager would "seek a new challenge" or "feel jaded", I would drop them from the squad, fine them two weeks wages and replace them. Cause Coach Sandy doesn't tolerate divas. This is what our team needs to do, in order to be challenging for trophies. To make the 11 men on the pitch act like men.

The new manager coming in needs to be someone like Steven Gerrard or David Beckham. Someone who has played recently and who literally will sort all this diva nonsense out and move on stale players who have no passion when they put on the shirt. Its time for drastic measures. If this continues, we wont even be considered a big EPL club as we will decline. Its heartbreaking.

The work analogy certainly doesn't hold true if you work in the UK. So many people I know and who 'work' with don't actually work but get away with it. But in the UK unless you are a contractor it's actually very difficult to get fired...unlike the US for example.

Every club to be fair. Even recently successful clubs like Citeh and Liverpool, Jesus and Sterling get picked on a lot by their fans (you just need 3 minutes at the Citeh forum), so do Mane and Firmino at the Kop, etc. Ironically, Son’s name gets mentioned there quite often as a model replacement for the aforementioned players for his goal scoring ability and running behind the line. Grass is always greener on the other side since most of us fans only focus on our own team’s performance with a magnifying glass.

Is there a single player at this club that posters want to stay? Whilst it was bad not buying anyone a few years back it is also bad making too many changes like when Bale left.
I cannot see how you can sell Son and justify keeping Kane. If Kane goes Son is our top goal scorer and no one else at the club gets near his goal scoring. It is hard enough to find a replacement for Kane but impossible to get 2 players in that will replace the goals Son &Kane scored this season. I would sell Moura, Dele Lamela and Bergwjn before Son. But not all of them. We do not want to become a Brighton and have loads of goal chances but not many goals.
