Because of his pace, teams have to guard against him. The right back cannot bomb forward and leave open space if Son is at LW. This hinders opponents.
Secondly, it means they need to press Kane when he picks up the ball in midfield (which could leave gaps elsewhere) as he could play a through ball to Son.
It’s a shame that for so many games in 2021 we played so defensively that we barely utilised this threat. Locked in our own half.
They dont even see Son has been covering Reguilon's spot for weeks/months as well. Dont expect these guys to understand football at all. How can you possibly hate Son if you do? Just ignore them to save your time.
What wide left player specifically are you referring to that is within our budget (remember our record fee is 62 mil) that could be effective enough to discredit 17 goals and 10 assists in a season?
Son is an end product player and literally one of the best at it, completely two-footed and rarely misses clearcut chances. What more in their 'all-round play' does a wide player need to have? i'm curious.
I'm not even a Son fanboy btw, I just think he is the least of our worries with this squad and I don't understand why we would ditch him for someone worse.
not referring to any player specifically, im just saying that i think a player with a better all round game whos not as good in front of goal doesn't weaken us. sons value is only going to decline from here as hes a player that needs pace. i would sell him now and get someone like grealish in who would improve us massively.
better all round players are not 'patchy' because they are natural footballers who add value even when they might not hit 'numbers'. sons actual build up play is awful, so if hes not scoring hes offering fuck all, in actual fact its worse than that because he actually becomes a hindrance.

It would weaken us though particularly if we lose Kane, he will be replaced by an inferior striker because everyone is compared to him. If we got rid of Son for a more traditional winger as you suggested they may provide more service but to a striker who is definitely going to miss more, see the problem?
Yes his build up play is his weakness which is why you play to his strengths, he is pretty comparable to Salah who is also a fairly one dimensional player with high scoring output that offers little else ... doesn't mean he is shit, just that he is very good at a few things. Most players are like this.
Build up play must have an end product in the form of goals or assists which is where Son thrives, I don't mind having a winger being a main contributor, I would rather our central players take more responsibility for progressing the ball forward through the lines but they have been poor.

i understand what youre saying but i just think having all round better players is always the way to go in football. it just benefits the team as a whole to have more well rounded players out there. sons world class for 13 games a season, hes absolutely shit for the rest. i want a player whos going to add value in most games even when hes maybe not in his best form, watching son in the buildup is a tough watch because he looks like he just doesnt have a clue what to do with the ball. hes only good once hes been put in behind against a side that comes out to play, thats easily nullified.
if son stays and kane leaves we should play him as a striker and look to get him in behind, because as a winger against sides that are going to look to counter us hes a waste of space.
city dont even have a striker or wingers! they have a group of footballers/ playmakers who just pass teams to death. i suppose mahrez is the closest thing they have to a winger and look at his quality on the ball compared to sons.
