Player International Break Watch

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Let's be honest, England haven't been a particularly good watch for a while. We're just a very tough side to beat and have enough individual quality to get us to finals and semi-finals.

It's far more enjoyable watching both the England under 21's and the Lionesses.

TT has ripped all that apart.
Yes. I don't think that was a good idea. I think it is critical in international football to have continuity and then bring 2-3-4 newish players as additions to those who have played together. These players looked exactly like they've never played together before.

I'm not sure Tuchel was a good appointment at all. He's a club coach and things are very, very different in international football. Club football in England is modern football. International football is like 1990s early 2000s club football. I watched Gattuso's Italy yesterday. They were terrible. But got a lot of help from the referee.

Thomas Frank is, I think, a pretty modern coach. He plays modern systems, reads what Guardiola, Klopp and other top clubs and managers are doing. But he can't implement that stuff if he were to manage England. That requires time and daily work with players. Systems to be engrained, patters or running/passing etc.

Another very, very critical factor and issue in international football is experience. It is a totally different thing to play for the country at a EURO or at a World Cup or at qualifying matches than to play for your club. A manager cannot just slot new players and expect them to perform like they do for their own clubs. And that is really Tuchel's potential big error. These all seem like almost totally new players. But, I think that he will be calling back some of the more experienced players. Saka is injured. Grealish will be called back I think. Kane was there. Great national sides know their first 11. Or know what 8 names will be in the lineup and then the question is the other 2-3. That is what a successful national side looks like.

Here's Tuchel after Andorra. He's learning:

The problem for him is that if/when he gets to the World Cup things will again be very, very different there.

We got rid of Southgate on a large part because we were not good. Tuchel was brought in to make us good

I made the mistake of watching the first 25 minutes of England vs The County of Andorra, then decided to go for a walk in the countryside. Glad I did - I saw a load of parakeets.

People call them shit machines.

Parakeets are referred to in the same way sometimes, too.

2-0 against Andorra. One of them an own goal.

Tuchel has been worse than Southgate so far.
Haven’t watched today.

Tuchel is a technically superior club coach, no question. However Southgate understood English players better, the youth connections were much deeper so continuity was closer for U21’s going up.

That’s my feel presently, soo sad given back to back Euro U21 winners. Yet, at full we lack Zest to play like a Prem Team, as the experienced options are soo relatively meagre Vs the talent we’re yielding.

Owen was on Sky saying how the development from youth to Senior is broken here, as the Prem is soo difficult to break into regularly now, so teams we best repeatedly now at U21 (all of you!) then power past us as the majority get 200 odd games 19-23 to polish their game. It’s certainly a riddle to solve.

Can't agree. Tuchel was brought in to take us that last step. If you win a competition nobody remembers how you got there or how you performed. Since when has Tuchel ever been known for free flowing, good football?

Get your heads round this.

Ronaldo 222 international appearances, and 140 goals, both records, that are highly unlikely to ever be beaten, and they will both get even higher.

Beyond comprehension..

In other news, I was at the Ireland game tonight and Matt Doherty is still fucking shit.

can't believe he still gets a game for us.
Me too. He was cack. So slow in everything he does. Second half was a cracker, thank christ. It was one of my boys first time at a game and we conceded within 2 mins.... Welcome to the pain of watching Ireland son 😅
