Madders is definitely more agile than Rooney. Rooney later in his career became more of a playmaker but was always built quite heavily so couldn't turn as quickly as Madders. Madders finds angles that Rooney wouldn't whereas Rooney would be more of a direct goal threat.I meant better all around as a lone 9 in the way modern teams only play one striker. Rooney thrived in systems where there were two strikers and he could be the deeper lying one. Yes rooney is a much better footballer.
Sheringham is a much better footballer than Solanke, but he didn’t play in a modern lone striker system, think he’d really struggle playing as a lone 9 in modern times, especially us.
Think Solanke was really poor tonight, 2 assists to his name but was poor in a lot of other areas. He ran around a lot so passmarks all round on here I guess.

JM wasn’t in the conversation I was having about strikers earlier in his own thread which I helped to derail slightlyMadders is definitely more agile than Rooney. The guy is our best player. He makes other players play better. He’s in double figures for goals and is always looking to create. We asked for a creative midfielder and he is that but gets too much criticism in my eyes. He always works hard too which I don’t think he gets any credit for.
My only gripe against him is he rolls about too much but that’s every player nowadays.
I look at Eze and he doesn’t offer what madders does but he’s somehow classed as the holy grail on here. I’d love to see both them together though.
I assume that Ange losing faith in Biss plays some factor in Maddison playing so much as an 8. He wants someone technical in that role.We really need to end this madness of asking him to play as 8. He is born 10 and two other central midfielders should cover center of the pitch as double pivot with him tuning in front of them.
He often falls easilly, but yesterday when it mattered the most - he managed to stay on his feet and carry the ball for 3rd goal.
Agree - the Spurs 10 shirt is a heavy burden to wear for Spurs much like Man United's 7 but Madderz is doing it well!!We really need to end this madness of asking him to play as 8. Yeah, was just about to post the same, watching it back he was really vocal for everyone in terms of their effort and positioning. Also talking to the subs before they come on, giving Davies instructions and talking to them all individually when the game was done. Was great to seeWatched him closely yesterday. He was a big leader on the pitch yesterday. Numerous times he shouted and directed at players to cover when we attached, telling fullback or cms to get back in the gap (which makes me think Ange is wanting us to play like that), he physically pushed Son one time to get back to his wing in defence. He was really vocal and telling players to do things. It was great to see.
And Rooney was 10 times the playerMadders is definitely more agile than Rooney. If he did fall out with the coach, they are over it now.
Also, clearly thinks Bergvall is a 6, which is interesting.
