Kulusevski played further up the field than Maddison. Postecoglou should have told him to come a bit deeper into midfield like what Maddison was doing. It could be that he was following Postecoglou's instruction already though.

Yeah, pretty sure we switched to a 4231 - and I'm putting most of the blame on Postacoglu - but regardless of where Kulusevski played it was a stupid sub IMO for Ange to make. Kulusevski is awful as a deeper 8. Should have put Bissouma on as the 8 and kept 433.
I would have said Sarr instead of Bissouma but I get your point, it was a situation where we could have strengthened the midfield regarding winning the ball and being more dominant in the centre, rather than having Kulusevski playing higher up the field and is an inferior tackler. In fact If Maddison came off for that reason I would have seen the sense in it.
We should have held onto PEH, because in hindsight he's better than Bissouma at being a strong midfielder, even last season he helped us win games by coming on about half way through the second half and shoring up a victory.
Kulusevski and Solanke ended up our out ball though.
The closest we have to Maddison in terms of skill set to play in those MF spaces is Odobert but not sure even the bravest coach is chucking Odobert into MF in that game.
