Player Jamie Donley

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

No he’s not slow and will put his foot in. I don’t see anything lacking in this department. He’s a very tidy player but with madders, deki and now Kudus he’ll never start a first team game for us.

I don’t remember him being slow last pre season either

I feel like people just say physicality about young players when they know the kid doesn’t have a big enough reputation to get minutes.

I really hope Donley sticks around for at least 1 season in the first team and sees if injuries give him a chance. Maybe he goes on loan again but before a permanent move, I’d love to see him just try once

Donley's an exceptional creative player, a left sided no 10.

Maddison will be 29 in November, and has missed quite a few games through injury, in part because opposition target him to stop Spurs playing.

Kulusevski, who I like, is not as creative although not bad, but was overplayed in 2nd part of last season and got injured - but he was the only alternative to Maddison last season and Kudus arriving doesn't really change that

So 20 year old Donley staying at Spurs, if Frank gives him assurances of say at least 1,500 minutes (17 games) when Spurs are likely to play 60+ games (s we did last season), looks like a pragmatic move - and allows Donley to show he can take Maddison's place in a couple of years time. And as a List B/u21 player does not take up a squad place

Agree

I can see an injury giving us a Kane situation. People thought he wasn't athletic enough either

I agree.

I see Donley as a Sheringham type of player. Not the quickest, but excellent technique, good vision & teamwork, and increasingly learning how to use his body to shield the ball etc.

Obviously he's nowhere near as good as Teddy yet, but Donley was an excellent finisher when he was playing as a striker in our Academy teams. IIRC when we signed Lankshear, who is an out & out CF, Jamie was dropped back from striker to the ACM / 10 role.

There are plenty of clips from Donley's Orient loan where his ability to spot a pass early and deliver are evident. He's one of those who will probably benefit from playing alongside better quality players.

Let's see if Justin Cochrane & Frank can find a role for him in our squad.
