Player Jamie Donley

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Give Donley a chance as the backup left back, keep Davies here another year whilst Donley develops.
It's not his position.

It will stunt his development and at premier league level and with Ange's aspirations, you can't play with an AM/CF as back up left back for a season.

A loan makes sense. He hasn't played much senior mens football, and going to a team that will play to his strengths and play him in his position is the way to go if he isn't going to get valuable time as a 10 or an 8 here.

Bayern game will be interesting in terms of this permanent move to LB.

If he's up for moving there permanently in his career and we think he will be a legit option as the rotation LB, there's enough games to justify keeping him until January at least.

If he still wants to play #10 or even #8 then he needs a loan to the Championship and club where he plays every week.

Bringing backup LB will result in another deadwood in 2 seasons. Can't imagine anyone who we can afford can displace healthy Udogie, so its about rotation. Not saying it should be Donley - im comfortable with sharing this responsibility between VDV, Spence and Davies (old Ben can handle group stage of EL, since i don't trust him in PL). I would keep Donley only if we make a decision that he is primary backup for Destiny and he is the one who plays when Udogie is out/rests - otherwise he should be loaned.

There's no evidence this guy has any ability in 1v1 defending. Looks very slow too.

He's clearly got bags of technical ability and I'd much rather see him get a chance to develop in his natural 10 role in the Championship rather than shoehorned in to play 5 games for us at LB next season.

Let's be real. If Udogie is injured and we have any top 10 side to play, Ange is not starting Donley at LB.

There isn't any evidence but there wouldn't be yet. He's only just started playing there. Loan is the most obvious option but no harm is seeing how he does vs Bayern against Olise.

Yes, agree, so in such case VDV or Spence comes in. Personally, for me Donley is too slow for this position to play against top opponents (except cases when we are behind and need to go ultra offensive, and against weaker sides). So questions are: 1. Is he done in this club as CM so LB is his only chance 2. Will there be enough minutes for him to grab at LB only based on his limitations we see. I would not loan him only if answers to both questions are: yes.

So... you are suggesting that we would buy an average level fullback?
When we have Ben Davies already.

Yea, sure. Let's buy another of what we have. Great logic, champ!
Massive logic fail on your part.

We don't need to buy a world class LB to improve on what we have. Davies is so shit at LB Ange doesn't even play him there when Udogie is out, we played VDV there instead. So why even mention him?

No one said buy an average LB. We buy a promising young LB with the right profile (similar to what we did with Udogie). It's really not that hard dopey.

You think shoehorning a number 10 from the academy is the better tactic for a serious football club?

Have you witnessed where our fullbacks play most of the game?!

It’s less of an issue than in a conventional system.

Will probably still be loaned out though.

If Spence is kept I think he’ll likely be cover for both flanks.

No it is not massive logic fail.

You just happen to have absolute verbal diarrhea. The post I am quoting is total manure and made 100% up in your mind.

1) "Davies is so shit at LB Ange doesn't play him there" - fact check - last season Benny was used in 7 games as LB and 9 games as CB. Almost equal AND this is massively impacted by the injury crises in CB department, otherwise he would have played less as CB.
2) "We played VDV there instead" - fact check - Mikey was played as LB exactly 2 times. At the time when Udogie AND Benny were BOTH INJURED AT THE SAME TIME. But of course you wouldn't know that little thing, do you? And before that.. when both were available for NLD... who did Ange pick to LB. Yes. It was Benny. Also, VDV was never utilized as LB at the time when Benny was available. So sit down and shut the fuck up.
3) As football is a squad game things are not always as easy as 1+1=2. We also signed Dragusin in the Jan window and obviously from his perspective it made sense to play him in CB position, which made just more logical shifting VDV to LB, after... you know... 1st and 2nd pick options were BOTH injured at the same time.

I mean just read through those three points for yourself... "So why even mention him". Yea, I don't know why to mention someone in LB discussion who was used in 7 games. But you yourself bring in someone who only was used in 2.

So get the most basic knowledge in place before ranting.

All of the above does not mean that Donley would 100% have to be our first go-to player in LB position.
But I totally stand my ground that there are positions where we there is much more to gain from than bringing in player to LB where we have brilliant Udogie, 2nd choice option of Davies and then further alternatives already in the team. And generally speaking I have absolutely no problems playing youngsters who fight their heart out for Spurs even if it would be out of position.

Yeah I absolutely have witnessed where the FB's play. It's a large part of what makes the system work with overloading the middle and top third of the pitch. Requires creativity, positional awareness and technical ability. All of which he has.

Fundamentally, Donley should be competing for his preferred position as an 8/10 even as a 9 as he was a striker in the youth teams.

We'll get absolutely spanked on the counters, as we did last year, and that requires someone a lot more specialised as a FB, and especially pace/recovery, something that JD does not overly have.

Agree with the Spence comment. We'll see him often at LB.
