Player Jamie Donley

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

The kid has been getting slated by the Orient fans.

Apparently having a stinker.
Think that can often be the nature of playing as a 10 as a young player on loan because you rely a lot on the midfield behind you to do well and get control of the game so you have more freedom. Devine found that last season in L1, looked anonymous in some games where they were on the back-foot and more able to showcase his technical ability when he played further back as the 6 and got on the ball more.

Not in the Orient squad tonight. Came on as a sub on 62 last game (loss 1-0).
Os struggling at the base of the table.

“On the ball, he has the world at his feet,” Wellens told The Athletic after the game. “He can play at the top level if he wants to.

“But you look at the top teams now, as soon as they lose that ball, they sprint back. That is something Jamie needs in his game — the reaction as soon as the ball turns over, whether it is to go and press or slide back into shape. It is something over the next six to eight months, while he is with us, we will try to develop. If he gets that, he will be a real top player.”

This may be the reason why Angelos played him as LB in the pre-season, i.e. to install some defensive fibers into him.

He’s still only 19 so personally I think it’s too early to be writing him off. It’s his first experience playing regular men’s football so it’ll be a steep learning curve for him, but I have faith. If there’s no noticeable improvement by the end of the season that will be a concern, but he still has time.

So... this is turning into another Veliz loan from 2nd half of last season, isn't it ? :D

I mean when we were playing him on LWB in lot of preaseason games to prepare him for that. And what I've read, he did well.

Now we are EXTREMELY light on left wing alltogether - Udogie coming back from injury, suffering poor form but always has to play. Son being out for long periods of time. Now also Werner injured. So is Spence (and not included in EL to limit his chances anyway). And from other wing Odobert being missing further limits our winger-options...

I feel that Donley could have seen quite a number of minutes here and there. Surely be playing against Gala during current week.

But on Leyton - he started 3 out of 3 games. But only has started 2 out of following 9...
If that trend continues, he'd be better off to return in January.

Sometimes early in your career it’s a good thing. He is going to have to understand he will have to fight hard to make it. A bad loan or two isn’t the end of the world if the next loans are really good and you have improved under difficulty.

Yeye, all fine but I am bit more interested of what is best for club too.
And right now I've got a feeling it would be better to have Donley around.

Kind of feel that the pendelum has went to another extreme -while we had time when KWP was rotting on our bench.. now we loan out pretty much everyone (Moore and Lankshear being exceptions for this season - I would have kept Donley too) who we can and thus have limited options to call from reserves.
