Player Jamie Donley

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We need a number 10 to compete with Maddison. I think he will be back.
Is Donley currently at the level of competing with Maddison? Wonderful season in League One aside, I don't think he is just yet. AMs playing high-level mens footy tend to mature towards their mid 20s.

Smart move imo would be to bring in Cherki and re-loan Donley. Can't see Madders being here past 2027, at which point our two young AMs are getting serious minutes.

All of this will depend of course on a new coach with a full pre-season and our (likely underwhelming) transfer budget.

He wins double player of the year and some tramps are in here trying to run him down.
Nobody is running him down you muppet. People with a functioning brain are saying very well done, but it’s league 1. A significantly lower level so let’s not totally carried away and think he’s ready to dominate the PL. If you had a working brain cell you might recognise that.

Lucas Bergvall aged 18 (now 19) when he arrived at Spurs after playing 1,500 minutes in the Swedish league (rated well below Championship ..... can anyone remind me what league is below that ? ) and within half a season is most Spurs fans favourite player.

Jamie Donley now aged 20 has played 3,000 minutes in League 1 clocking up almost 20 Goal Involvements and impressed Pep playing ManCity, but clearly cannot be good enough as he's not come from a foreign league.

Some TFC posters never change.

100% this

It probably goes against Jamie that he doesn't have the same CV as people like Devine, Moore and Scarlett who have starred in youth teams at international age group level. Perhaps he has to prove himself a bit more than them in the eyes of observers. Same for George Abbott who has not had much experience with international youth football.

It does depend a little on the index you use mind. The Swedish top flight is rated closer to the Championship than League One in some ranking systems, and Djugarden made a European semi this year despite being a mid-table club.

But sure, you can only play what's in front of you and at that level he has excelled enough that he should be considered for PL minutes.

TBF Jamie seems to be addressing this by having committed to Northern Ireland and already getting minutes with their senior national team.

Maddison, Eze, Grealish, Wharton, Bowen……none took long to adapt to Premiership football. I know a couple were a bit older moving up but as they say…..if you’ve got it.

Kane was 21 when he made his PL debut with us. Skipp was 18 and Winks was somewhere in between the two in age if my memory is correct.

Donley is 20 right now and has had a good loan at Orient. It makes perfect sense to me to keep him in the first team squad to start next season if he does well in pre-season. Even if he doesn't become a starter he can still carve out a spot for himself off the bench as a 20 year old.

And if it doesn't work or if he needs more seasoning we can send him out on a new loan in January.

I'd imagine due to money constraints from levy.. devine , Abbott and donley will all be in any new managers first team squad next season and I'd expect devine to get plenty of game time.

I do think that this is likely as well. And All three can carve out okay spots for themselves tbh. Every youth player doesn't have to immediately step into a starting role.

Keeley however should head out on loan again. It is much harder for youth keepers to get minutes.
