Started going through the ITK... up to page 10 so far... makes interesting reading...

I've updated and added notes at the bottom - done it in colour. Green correct(ish) Blue not much to comment on either way. Red Wrong.

Do we know how much we got in return for Pav? I have heard conflciting reports as high as £11m and as low as £3m . The truth must be somewhere in the middle right?

... I will tell you what happened with Hazard in a few days time when there is less traffic! All a Bit bizarre really but you have to feel that we got played a bit by his agent even though he is really keen to join and he approached us! Yeah I agree [with Hazard going to Chelsea] but why the whole charade of the last 2 weeks?? it's all about money for the agent but the player is keen for footballing reasons for us?
All a bit bizarre as we always thought he would go to Real or Chelsea take your pick son but then we thought we did a deal then over 2 weeks then .....nothing???
Interesting. Won't get my hopes up. If what you say is true, it's nice that Hazard likes what we're doing. But I think that money is better spent on Leandro. Hazard plays LW, we've already got a World Class Left Winger! I just don't think we need another midfielder at the moment unless he's a natural RM.

My solution to the RW cover debacle at the moment: This may be slightly controversial. If Lennon gets injured again, push Bale to RW. We were all really fucking negative on the inverted wingers thing at first but Bale is really starting to shine. His already astronomical worth to the team goes up exponentially with his diversifying and growing into central and right midfield roles. Maybe it isn't ready for prime-time yet against big opponents, but he's starting to get there (just needs to work on that right foot). He'd provide more width than either Gio or Kranjcar could, who are more secondary and tertiary backups to VdV, who if gets injured we bring on Defoe and move to 4-4-2.

Which leaves us to LW. I think we can all agree that Modric NEEDS to be playing in CM to get the most out of him, but he's also far more capable at LW than anyone outside Bale or Lennon. We're stacked in CM at the moment, with Parker, Sandro, Livermore, and Huddlestone coming back at some point. All are more defensive minded midfielders so we'd lose some pace, but I still think it's a better solution than anything else that would allow us to maintain our winning formation. Might allow Thuddles an opportunity to break back in the team if we need that deep lying playmaker.

If Bale gets injured, THEN you bring on Gio. If Luka gets injured, move Bale to LW THEN you bring on Gio. The team is really starting to shine with this "total football" stuff. I think we might be able to pull it off.

Fair assessment, and good points. I agree that we've started to play a beautiful mutation of 'total football' (at least when we're on our game) and allowing the creativity and 'flow' to continue has to be the goal (no pun intended).

Moving Mod out to the wing certainly can make the center of the pitch tighter and tougher (especially with Sandro in there), but we'd lack that creative spark and outlet ball from that depth (Thud adds that in, but we sacrifice the grit of a Sandro or Parker). I think in that instance we'd see VdV forced to track back a lot more than normal, which may take away from our attack somewhat. I think Gio as the first cover keeps the Parker/Mod combo in tact, and i think that familiarity and their ability to play with, and off, each other (i.e. Mod does the directing and Parker does the dirty work) has been the key to our success as it allows the other players on the wing, in the hole and in attack to be 'free' as they know what they have behind them.

Either way, i'm interested to see how this plays out.

Re: January 2012 Transfer Window Thread *Warning: Contains I

Aren't you leaving out a CM? Any two of Parker, Sandro, Huddlestone.

The Parker/Mod combo has been brilliant, but Sandro also deserves to be more than cover. Really scared about losing him. Parker himself is a fairly creative player, I think Parker/Sandro would look brilliant as well. That would be a really gritty midfield with Parker's added creativity. Probably see a lot of cutting in from Bale and Modric.

You'd have support from BAE and Walker to provide width and support, Modric and Bale would probably cut in a lot to add creativity and lethality respectively in the center. Think you could shut up shop while still playing aggressive football.

Think that's another reason to doggedly pursue Leandro. He'll be expensive but he'd go miles to us holding on to Sandro, and vice versa.

I was assuming that Super Scotty Parker was always in the line-up (when healthy), and that we'd therfore pair him with Thud or Sandro. To be fair, lil' Jake would probably get the spot start before Thud ...

Re: January 2012 Transfer Window Thread *Warning: Contains I

Agreed. Big Tom has been out for a while. I don't want to lose him but at this point I think he needs a change of scenery to get back on top. Livermore has been and will be for some time a really good utility sub for us.

Obviously I think Modric is better in terms of creativity, but I also think Parker has a lot of that in him too, he just has a different duty paired alongside Modric. It might not be quite as fluid or creative, but I don't think Parker/Sandro would be that less effective outside of playing against top teams or unless we were generally having a bad day.

What the fuck we doin? This ain't ITK.

Re: January 2012 Transfer Window Thread *Warning: Contains I

once again, i'm left underwhelmed by our transfer activity, but the nature of all these short term deals suggest we're waiting til the summer to spend any significant amounts. that makes sense, we'll know the situation with Harry by then regarding both court case and England job, we should be in CL, and it's just easier to do business in the summer.

i don;t think saha is a bad stand in for Pav for hopefully only the very odd game, and 7mil(?) wasn't bad for Pav so...
don;t know much about Nelson, guess he's another experienced stand in for hopefully only the very odd game
not sure why we let pienaar go, i think he's a useful sub
understand corluka wanting to leave but hope we're not left short there, who can stand in for Walker now? Kaboul? Gallas is too old to play right back surely even if fit

Re: January 2012 Transfer Window Thread *Warning: Contains I

hope the loans lead to sales in the summer, if they were not playing values potentiallly decrease - 6M+ corluka - 6M+ Pinear- 6M+ Bassong - Pav 8M

26M in the summer to spend - better players available at reasonable prices. Have cover for those leaving - (personally think we have improved options upfront).

For these reasons think it was a good transfer window -

Re: January 2012 Transfer Window Thread *Warning: Contains I

We're going to be spending a bundle in the summer.

Next season = nailed on title contenders.
