Transfers January 2018 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

if they found out he really wanted to come back and would drop his wages to 85k...

Personally I'd love to see him back, but I wouldn't want to pay mega bucks for him, for all the reasons people have listed above

Those 5 words alone prove the state of modern football...

DROP wages to £85k a week... fuck my old boots!

I’d take him, I really would.

Chelsea would never sell to us.

There's clearly something there though. Someone said it in the Other Matches Thread but it's hilarious that they bought Drinkwater for £30,000,000 and shafted this guy out on loan to the worst team in the league.
Loftus Cheek might be a complete no-go for us (unless he's anywhere near running down his contract, which I don't believe is the case?) but he's got to be the straw the breaks the camel's back and stops any youth prospect with long-term sense from signing for the Chelsea academy.

Not least because, in addition to never ever ever playing the kids, they have the worst transfer relationship with the PL team who does it best. Carry on like this and we should have the best kids in London begging to join us.

As long as their parents aren't money hungry.

Speed merchant? Walcott is a speed merchant. You don't get 21 pl goals, be a key player in a Real madrid side winning 3 chl titles in the last 4 years by being a speed merchant. This forum is ridiculous at times, as if you can become a world class player simply by being fast. Insanity
Michael Owen got 21 goals and although wasn’t a key player for Madrid, certainly had a better goal per game ratio than Bale. I’m not saying that Bale is all about pace, but he will need to massively adapt his game when the pace goes. The jury is out whether he can

Love Bale. So disappointed when he left but: coming back would be a disaster for us. Injuries are a massive issue but I read it would spoil his amazing legacy and all of those amazing moments he gave us.

How about Zaha? Poch would develop him beyond belief and he may be the key to unlock all those parked Wembley buses!

That’s the issue, the parents become greedy and think about the money. What is an 20 year old going to do with £20k a week? I’d rather see my son/daughter play weekly and given a chance to improve. It’s not just the managers fault though, the board don’t help with the pressure for results so high.

To be fair, they've been involved in the development of De Bruyne, Lukaku and Matic. All it took for those players to come good was to fuck off from Chelsea.

Probably unfair on a lot of the parents. I don’t know the stats, but I bet a lot of these kids never get a professional contract, or certainly never get offered anywhere near 20k a week again. You could call it unambitious, but if you’re a parent of a kid with no qualifications and Chelsea offer a life changing sum of money for them, I can see why many take it

Christensen is a win too - I would guess they can also point to all of those loan players on big wages (more so than in the traditional route) and the number of pros who have made it with other clubs. i.e. we pay you more if you are good enough we promote you otherwise we give you a good loan and sell you in 4 years, you will be at a big club and earning double for the 4 years.

I don't buy it but its a story they can tell.

I'd still have Bale back if the financials are right and he's willing to take a pay cut. We pay Sissoko close to 100000 per week and paid 30 million in transfer fees. I'd be happy to replace Sissoko with Bale for the same deal with maybe an additional 20 million in transfer fees.

Bale might be injury prone, but he's far from finished. If he was managed well, he would be so useful against teams that park the bus and no matter how you want to ignore it, his rise at Spurs and the subsequent transfer fee is the reason we are where we are right now.

Bale is done and dusted....the PL has moved on since he was:
1) Four years younger
2) Not constantly injured
3) Spurs were a team with no direction

If he has any chance of doing well, he should stay in Spain where he can thrive off defenders that are scared to tackle you.

In an undeniably weaker league than the prem.
Still think Zaha is the key: under Poch he'd thrive!

If offered a choice of both then Bale wins everytime for me. He’s capable of winning a match on his own, he has a winning mentality and has won everything in Spain. He’d come back as a hero.

Zaha is a good player, but I think he suits a Palace team where he is the main man. Son is a better Zaha in my eyes.

If Zaha means Son leaving then they can keep him....he wont be scoring 15-25 goals a season for us and I dont think his assists will be high enough to justify losing such a quality player we have in Son.

To replace Nkoudou and fight it out with Lamela, then all day long for Zaha

I'd take Bale back in a heart-beat

We've often lacked match-winning quality or inspiration to unlock a stubborn defence with direct pace and penetration

That will surely get all of his supporters on the Out brigade.

I already voiced my opinion on Zaha no point in doing that again. How’s Berahino doing btw? Also got pace and skill.
Zaha looks good to me and could thrive here as he’d be under a manager who can develop him. I’m pretty sure Berahino would be better here than he is under his present manager.
