Transfers January 2018 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Goretzka got me thinking about something in particular: one might make the case that this January could be an excellent opportunity to attract some superb young players who play for a Europa or non-european side (i.e. not cup-tied in the Champions League) and may be more attracted to the prospect of coming onto our project given how well we've been performing in our 'group of death'.

Liverpool have been able to attract players based on their historical standing for too long now. It's high time we took advantage of our growing reputation and perhaps aggressively recruited for our attacking midfield (as with our purchase of Davinson Sanchez to boost the defence, which has been a masterstroke).

Agree. We should probably stop thinking of buying ready players that can improve us. They will be too expensive. Work the scouts and buy some future. They can be good squad players while developing.

As for Bale, it will be like the Newcastle Owen deal. Bale is currently in my Spurs PL era best ll and lets just keep it that way.

Gareth Bale has missed 40 of the last 60 games through injury and is currently out until at least January.

Dropping 80mil on a player that injury prone at 28 on 300k a week is the stupidest idea ever.

Add to that the fact that he was always a speed merchant and age and injuries will be taking their toll. Don't get me wrong, he wouldn't be a bad option to have. But the transfer doesn't make any sense unless you have unlimited money or he is willing to seriously drop his wages

I find our collective obsession with Bale very weird, embarassing even.

We are like the jilted lover whose fit girlfriend found a richer, better-looking beau. We asked if we could still be friends and years later are still asking our mates if they think she might come back one day.

Fuck her and fuck him

There are better players to get for the money we're thinking of spending. We could spend that money on a Thomas Lemar, Julian Draxler or Nabil Fekir. Much better value for money.

It’s not weird, it’s perfectly natural, and stupid.
He left us in his prime, before we started ascending ourselves so there will always be the looming question of “what if he stayed?”.
I just think the question is moot as when most people imagine this scenario they see Bale playing under Poch with Kane and Dele. But there’s no assurance Poch would have came and Kane might not have got his spot (plus Dele and Eriksen wouldn’t be here).

Wait, I'm confused. "Him", is that your mate or your ex's better-looking beau? I get fucking her, as she's apparently quite stunning, but why him? If it's her new beau, I guess it is because you find him attractive. But if it is your mate? Why? Would it be a so-called menage a trois? Would you be able to call no-homo, or would you use it as an out-of-the-closet moment?

If he was fit as a fiddle, no more than 30 mill and would play within the club wage structure, I'd take him back - no issues.

But I have lost the capacity to be offended by the loyalty values of footballers

But for clarity - I wouldn't extend that courtesy to Judas.....

It happened with Waddle when he went to marseille. Its not that weird or unusual for fans to crave the return of cult players, 'legends', star players

Bale is more Michael Owen or Rio Ferdinand than John Terry or Paul Scholes.

He relies on his pace and the problem is that declines quickest of all attributes, combined with his injuries in a few years his career could be in peril.

Unless we get Bale on the cheap and he accepts lower wages I see no point in this. It’s possible we had Bale at his very best and while we really need a wide forward of his type, we don’t need an injured one.

I think as Nabil Bentaleb Nabil Bentaleb said above he now needs us more if he wants to regain his football, Poch with training might sort him out so it’s possible but I reckon he will go to United and sit on their injury list.

Just read through this thread and there's scores of reasons - we are going forwards, not backwards.

Couldn't agree more, although I would love bale in our side, it's the old bale that I loved seeing in a spurs shirt, not the injured player on £300k a week!no one can argue that On his day he could be a match winner, but he can't even stay fit for a full season in Spain, not sure how he would cope in the PL!
It's all about finding the next Bale for me, no way in a million years levy is going to splash £85 million on a player as fragile as Bale, and even less chance of him taking a pay cut to £100k a week to join us!
