Is it just me or has the quality of players declined in the past few years?

I'm talking globally, not just spurs or in the Prem.

I'm looking around at the top teams and the old dogs from yesteryear are still playing for them and the youngsters seem not to be getting in.

I'm looking around for potential suitors at DM and I don't see anyone that's any good. Even if money wasn't an issue who would you get. Can only think of Kante perhaps Fabinho. Anyone in Europe?

Yes I've noticed this too. Not just in football, but in all professional sports. The athletes born in the 90s just aren't cutting it.

Lebron James is still the best basketball player in the world and he's in the latter half of his 30s

Up until this year, Tom Brady was still considered a top 2-3 QB and won the Superbowl last year at age 41

Tiger Woods won the last Masters and he's in his mid 40s with multiple back surgeries

Federer and Nadal and still among the best in Tennis at ages 38 and 33 respectively

Messi is still the best footballer at age 32 and Ronaldo is still a top 3-5 player at age 35

Yeah agreed.

But even the tier of players just under these top players are relatively old. Just peculiar.

Lemar isn't necessary at all. If he's intended to be an RB (which is where Simeone plays him sometimes) then he's just a slightly better Aurier, with still no real defensive strengths.

Allan looks fucking amazing. Surprised I've never heard of him. Can we get him, please?

Now would be nice.

So, we need a striker, Left back, right back , center back, defensive mid and a creative replacement for Eriksen.

All at January prices.

Get it done Levy.

Oh, and probably a keeper.

Nonsense. 3 years ago (2016/17) we had a fully fit and firing Wanyama who was just off the back of a superb season yet still improving, Dembele still in god-mode and Dier looking like a future captain.

And Winks looking highly promising.

However, we also had the best defensive record in the league with the best defensive pairing and still spent £30,000,000+ on Sanchez - buying when you're strong is smart.

Sulkatov and Modric were the last players we bought that I had never heard of and then thought fcuk me we do some fcuking good business.

No one since both has been a huge surprise in terms of quality and unknown in the same mix.

Is that because you were younger? How could you not have heard of CL finalist and well known Berbatov but heard of the likes of Son?

To be honest, I think it's more to do with how much we've grown as a team regarding status. When we signed Berbatov and Modric we'd never finished top four and just about tasted European Football for the first time in years. But they helped our rise to top four chasers and eventually getting CL football (in Modrics case) - allowing us to sign higher calibre players like VDV etc.

Personally, Sandro was the last 'unknown' signing we made where I thought damn our scouting is pretty damn good. We seemed to have a different model back then. Good old Director of Football.

I know he's not a DM and he didn't have the best of times with Fulham despite a promising start (who did!?) - we could do alot worse at this price.

Zambo-Anguissa who had a poor time last season is having one hell of a season for Villarreal (and was excellent at Marseille before hand) so it probably was just a mixture of being awfully coached last season and the overall squad not being good enough.

I am a massive football fan but maybe just didn't register. Not a matter of age I can assure you but obviously something.

I had bizarrely heard bits about Send to and yes for a short time I thought yes but no!

Alli is by a long shot the best in the last 10 years of surprisingly good for not too much although he was feted by others. He is though a luxury item. That is now clear. One to have but luxury for sure.

Yeah Dele has probably been the best surprise of the last 10 years in terms of value, relatively unknown status and meteoric rise.

Can't think of anyone who comes close. Sadly, we don't tend to sign young British talent from lower leagues anymore or gamble on young unknown foreign youth. I still think with the right coaching though Foyth has a future here.
