What in Good God's name is a 'Defensively active Ball Progressor'.

'Alright Bodge. You're on the left today. And Tony, I'm having you up top. Frank, thanks for going between the sticks last game, but I'm actually going to need you to fill the defensively active ball progressor position today'.

Summit like this?

“For me, when you sign a player, despite the amount you pay, with the profile of Tanguy Ndombele or Giovani Lo Celso or Ryan Sessegnon you need minimum one year and a half, or two years,” said Pochettino.

“Look at what happened with Son [Heung-min] or [Moussa] Sissoko. They started to perform in year two, year three. Today the market is the market. You cannot judge the player because you paid some kind of amount. They need time to show their real quality.”

Oops

Just long enough for their nervous systems to start accepting Stockholm Syndrome suffered on the training pitch...

Or, don't train them into the ground, like the new fitness team hopefully understand, and, enjoy breathtaking performances from LoCelso just a few months into their tenures...

One or the other Poch...

One or the other Poch...
Poch's insistence on long bedding-in periods became all the more strange in the last 18 months of his tenure as the team had lost any semblance of a plan or system. We had been crying out for good technicians and it was clear Lo Celso was that but he was reluctant to throw him in the mix.

Shows the actual level you’re dealing with to be honest.
Just like full backs.
The golden days of the 2000s when the best teams were filled with world class players are over.
Look at that list. Some play for supposedly the best teams of all time.
Laughable when you look back to the Keane vs Viera days.
Gattuso would kick the fuck out of that list.

I think that's sentimental bollocks Sammy. Fernandinho is twice the player Keane was, and he has to be because there aren't just two teams worth a wank in the PL anymore, like there were in Keane's day.

Based on Twelve analytics and the "best" DMs in Premier League this season i get the followint stats - in points per minute played

Defense:
Højbjerg 782
Ndidi 712
Jorginho 696
Kante 668
Fernandinho 634
Neves 599
Fabinho 523

Off ball:
Højbjerg 287
Fernandinho 267
Kante 255
Jorginho235
Ndidi 229
Neves 214
Fabinho 167

For the record - Eric Dier is outstanding off ball

Attack:
Jorginho 737
Fernandinho 656
Fabinho 606
Neves 525
Kante 475
Højbjerg 468
Ndidi 373

Even if Twelve analytics isn´t the best analytics instrument, its one with a "objektive" way to rate players.

And based on this data. If Højbjergis a goer, I´m in. He would do great between Ndombele and Lo Celso

Two things..firstly the fact that you think I’ve manipulated the point to suit my “twisted logic” would mean that me saying Poch thought players needing two years to bed in would be.....well......twisted. Right?

Secondly, unfortunately for you, that says more about Poch than it does me.

You can try and twist the following into something that sounds like good management, but again, that just means you think what Poch actually said is pretty foolish. Otherwise why would you try and claim he didn’t mean what he said:

“For me, when you sign a player, despite the amount you pay, with the profile of Tanguy Ndombele or Giovani Lo Celso or Ryan Sessegnon you need minimum one year and a half, or two years,” said Pochettino.

“Look at what happened with Son [Heung-min] or [Moussa] Sissoko. They started to perform in year two, year three. Today the market is the market. You cannot judge the player because you paid some kind of amount. They need time to show their real quality.

What's your point then Sammy? Why do you keep bringing it up then? Now you're saying you understand his point yet you've continued to utilize it as a focus of derision. Simply state you're point then.

Keane and Gattuso would be doubled over having to chase around a Fernandinho or Kante, that's the difference.

The place where the league lacks quality it once had is in central defense. VVD looks like Beckenbauer out there today, but there used to be 6-7 guys that good.
