Interesting conversation with a well-informed ex-pat (what have you heard Bill?) he said that following the >400m loss last year Barca were counting on CL revenue this season .... a defeat to Bayern in Germany will almost certainly see them knocked out in the group stages ... he says this will leave them with another 50m hole in their finances, and will likely force further player sales. Anyone we can grab in January should they fail to progress?

Talks of de Jong going somewhere, on massive wages. Seen United mentioned last week, they desperately need a midfield. Maybe Dest if somebody offered good money, but I'm sure these players want to stay and work with Xavi's rebuild. Injury prone and professionally questionable Dembele.

They'll hardly sell the likes of Pedri, Gavi, Fati.

De Jong rumoured to be on about £350k pw wages - can anyone afford to replicate those wages ?

If Utd get Poch it’s because he failed at the richest club in the world in a one team league

Might want to consider that bit
kinda feel it will do him more harm than good leaving halfway through the season, as if he had no confidence is his ability to win the league and CL with an insanely talented squad. Sends the wrong signal to players, that he has no bottle and is a quitter.

We will see.
Conte walked out of the summer talks because he knew how much we needed to do here and Levy disagreed of course.

The November talks and season prior MUST have made Levy see Conte was right.

Unlike others, I think we’ll see a marquee striker in January and possibly a CM

One things for sure, by the start of next season, the old guard won’t be here and I believe that will include Lloris

Antonio Conte explains in his own words why he didn’t join Spurs in the summer

You have indeed detected bullshit there.

The Pravda level of the club’s official communications of the last couple of years has really jumped up a level, from the industry standard happy-clappy sunshine to really active and obvious countermeasures against prevailing social media narratives.

The Levy “interview” from the summer being the example par excellence. God that was crazy.

Seemed like nothing more than the usual vanilla corporate end of season babble to me.... Pretty much a copy/paste from previous seasons just with added covid.
No the manager search stuff took it to another level

And the format itself in that moment of crisis, the fake puff piece “interview”, was very bizarre and offputting.

The other notable thing of course was his completely honest and candid non-apology for the ECL and crystal clarity that Spurs will hunt for any similar future opportunities.

Well. He wanted to. Levy didn't want to pay the release clause. He wanted Poch to do some funny business and ruin his reputation so he didn't have to pay the release clause.

We will forever be a shit stain "top club" with Levy and Lewis at the helm. It breaks my heart.
Just because the press was "telling" the footballing world that Pochettino wanted the job there's no proof that he actually wanted the job. I think he was quite happy to remain as PSG head-coach.

Depends where you look, also seeing a more reasonable 176k, seems more likely to me.

Sometimes people mistakenly convert gross to net and vice versa when compiling the things.

Thanks

Even assuming the lesser number, that's still £9m pa - probably put him about 3rd highest paid player at Spurs.

Has he really performed that well at Barca ? (obviously looked great at Ajax, but at a higher level ?)

What can I say; I guess i just glaze over quicker at the sound of corporate babble than you do.....

I certainly didn't sit there thinking I was experiencing anything "crazy" or out of the norm... Even the talk of DNA blah is typically present both previously and indeed with other clubs.

I don't even remember him addressing the ESL in said video.

Thanks

Depends whom you trust I s'pose:

£354,000 p/w. £18,434,000 p/a

£164,000 p/w. £8,528,000 p/a

Then there is the pay-cut theory (as at March 2020):

Cut from £360,000 per week to £108,000 per week. aka £5,616,000 p/a

Conclusion: Fuck knows.

*The pay cut one was while on furlough I think rather than permanent.

But yes fuck knows.
