If we lose out on Vlahavic, and he turns out to be a decent striker, this illustrates exactly why taking less money for Kane and taking advantage of cut price deals in Italy is exactly what we should have done in the summer.

But too many people couldn't let go of pride and ego and were wedded to an OTT "minimum price" we should have accepted for Kane.

If we'd accepted £80-£100m for him, we could feasibly have signed Vlahavic AND Martinez in the summer, not had Kane lumbering about and had 2 players who's value could increase,
Instead, we refused to deal on Kane, didn't replace him, and now have a player who simply isn't worth £80m anymore and can't afford either of the replacements we identified, let alone both.

If people still can't understand the opportunity we passed up through sheer stubbornness, then I hope you're not in charge of your families finances.
Matt, Matt. Matt ……….

Normally one of the sharpest posters on here but this post is just aftertiming bullshit.

No one was seriously suggesting that we should accept £80m for Kane in the summer. (There were those who were unimpressed by his behaviour and would have given him away) but everyone rightly thought he was worth well north of £100m.

Even if we had sold him for the £75m they offered it wouldn’t have been enough to buy those players.

I get it that yr post is just born out of the frustration of how this season is panning out. But we’re all feeling that brother.

Missed on Grealish, Bruno for the likes of GLC and Ndombele

Kept Dele, Eriksen when we should have sold them two years earlier and now holding on to rapidly a declining Kane

Now add Vlahavic and Martinez to the list of players missed by ENIC

What a failure of an organization

We've spent so much money on fucking shit players

Sissoko
Janssen
Ndombele
Berg
GLC
Doherty
Sess
Sanchez
Aurier

When Lucas Moura is your best signing over the last 5 years, you know you have incompetent owners that need to GTFO.

There's a recurring theme there with nearly all those players you mention.

Generally young with one good season under their belts.

It hasn't worked for us, but by God we'll keep going.

Moura though, 19 goals last season at PSG... whilst I agree, think our club (player handling overall) plays as big a role as poor recruitment, has a single one of them improved gradually, using our World Class Facilities...

Levy provides money and hires people that are responsible for transfers. As you said "we've spent so much money", so 1st isn't a problem. The 2nd is now (hopefully, at least he identified the issue and did something to fix it) solved, as we hired Paratici. At least he's proactive, take a look at Kroenke or Glazers, or even Pool that let Edwards go and went few transfer windows with almost no improvements to 1st eleven (except Jota).
Two incoming transfer windows will clarify everything, if he really promised Conte big money and there will be massive improvements (not based on outgoings) I will be 100% convinced that Levy should stay.

Son is one that comes to mind but that's likely because he trains with his father. His improvement most likely has nothing to do with whatever the hell kind of training/player dev they do at the club.

I'd also say Skipp has been developing nicely but his ceiling is limited and he wasn't a signing.

Yeah, so the two you see improvement are youth who went on loan and really improved and a guy who has a personal trainer type as his Dad/Master!

We're shit, hope Conte fixes this, fast.

Imagine signing a 22 year old and him being much better season 2! It really happens elsewhere, honestly!

That Son / Dad point is one of the most ridiculous takes I’ve ever read on the entire internet

Actually having some base ability? A good attitude?

Or is it doing 1-2’s in the garden with his Dad
Son was shit during his first year with us and looked like a horrible signing. Wasn't he trying to force a move right away? His ability / attitude actually wasn't there when we signed him.

I think Son's even said that he trains separately with his dad every day and his dad is his personal trainer. I'm sure it has a lot to do with his success, keeping him focused etc.

Hope he stays here forever.

it's fun seeing people give a player with such a small role so much attention
He’s started like 15 or less games of any meaning since Pochettino left and mostly only when we’ve had injuries or players out. And yet, certain folks are still hilariously and bizarrely obsessed with him.

Never has a 6th choice midfielder garnered such attention as Harry Winks.

He wasn’t shit. Poch inexplicably played Lamela over him.

Our main focus in January has to be replacing Dele/Lo Celso/Ndombele. Get at least one of them out and a starting midfielder in. After that we can focus on bringing in another CB/LB/ST/RW or whatever position is needed but the creative position needs to be addressed.
