Take him out of the Man City set up and he's maybe a mild upgrade on Lucas, no ta...

Eh I wouldn't want us to go for him (wages + fee far too much) but he's far, far better than Lucas has ever been. Even as an 18/19 year old he was more productive than Lucas is in his prime, and he wasn't playing for City back then.

Has hit a bad patch of late though. Think the competition at City is getting to him a tad, seemed to enjoy being given the spotlight by Southgate. He's an excellent player though, definitely got the headless chicken disease but his off the ball work is extraordinarily good.

I completely disagree, his entire professional career Sterling has scored plenty of goals in sides that were very creative, I'd wager that if you plonked Lucas into those sides he would have scored a similar number of goals.

We simply do not play that way, I hope that one day soon we will, but Sterling is a player that would excel in a side already at that level, not one that would help make a team reach that level.

It's all opinion though, and Sterling is perceived at such a level now that it's highly unlikely we'll ever see how he would perform at a lower level side to find out one way or another.

£400m for Spurs under FFP the most of any club by a mile not that I am expecting that to be spent.

Funny reading the comments about the 1bn debt, most fans are financially clueless aren’t they? Can’t tell the difference between long term low interest bonds and short term debt to cover players and wages. Frighting how these people must deal with their credit cards and mortgages, they must think they are one and the same.

I always think that too. Financial education should really be taught better in schools.

He was also the stand out key player for a team full of world class talents for a couple of years, not just another player benefitting from others. He's dropped off a level since but he was incredible for City from 2018-2020, their main man. Scored so many important goals. Lucas has played in a very decent Spurs side (and playing for good teams doesn't = triple your goal return..) and hasn't been a fraction as good.

At the Euros he took England by the scruff of the neck and was the main man in a side packed with highly rated attackers. I don't think he needs to play in a top side to look good at all. He's an elite dribbler and off the ball is excellent. He's dangerous no matter where he plays. As I said, even as a teenager he was considered a key player for a top PL side.

Lucas doesn't even have an international career to speak of, for good reason .. even the likes of Richarlison and Everton get Brazil calls ups these days.

That's what you see, I see a speed merchant who can't kick a ball more than 6 yards, all he did at the Euros was bag a few tap ins and once that stopped he contributed nothing else, and you can't get those tap ins playing for less creative sides. Drop him into a side like we have been for the last few yars and his output would drop to something comparable to Lucas, imo.

We simply don't lay chances on a plate to our attackers, if we did then Lucas would be scoring tap ins for fun too.

Spurs are being linked to de Ketelaere. A few Spurs fans had a hard time even getting Eriksen's name right ... So, in order to save us from further such embarrassments, I prefer Spurs to target players with "easier" names - like Smith, Jones, Taylor, Brown, White, etc.

When you hear it, it's much easier to pronounce than it looks, daughter had a consultant of that name.

Agree to disagree I guess. They have similarities (neither can strike a ball for shit) but Sterling is very much a big ol' upgrade to me, and their respective careers reflect that.

Giollini is on loan atm...... SO long as we don't play him 15 times we get to give him back with no obligation to buy.

Wasn't aware. Hope Hugo stays fit then. He seems OK to me for HG, hard to think of a cheap way to usurp him (english up and coming not at top 10 club), or fix the Hugo vs New dilemma.

Happy to agree to disagree, it just baffles me any time I see someone bigging up Sterling, I just cannot see it myself and honestly nothing anybody can ever say will change my mind.

Were he to one day leave Man City, head to a midtable club, Woolwich for example, and totally tear it up and drag them up into the Europa spots for instance, I may begin to change my mind a little. Until then he's just a one dimensional flat track bully in my mind...

:kaneear:

kulusevsky seems to be available in january.. do you like him?

Not a fan personally, but I know some others on here rate him. He’s had some terrible games for Juve but lately more as an impact player has looked better.

I just don’t see it with him though. And an inability to get in to a pretty mediocre Juventus side playing in a weak Serie A doesn’t scream great signing in the Prem.

On a loan with option to buy though? Worth a punt.
