Conte walked out of the summer talks because he knew how much we needed to do here and Levy disagreed of course.
The November talks and season prior MUST have made Levy see Conte was right.
Unlike others, I think we’ll see a marquee striker in January and possibly a CM
One things for sure, by the start of next season, the old guard won’t be here and I believe that will include Lloris
If we start next season with players like Dier, Davies, Winks, Bergwijn and PEH we might as well close shop
My door is still open to Hojberg and Bergwijn, at least as squad options, but that all depends on what they offer this season.
As far as the other outfield players from the Poch era are concerned (outside of Son and Moura) I couldn’t care less is they win a balon dor, I will still expect them to be fully shit again next season.

Conte walked out of the summer talks because Levy would not guarantee transfer funds, in the middle of a pandemic, with stadiums still closed, you can understand why ...
However, as soon as it became clear that the 'money train ' stadium was back in business, Levy went back to Conte and said "OK you can have the funds you want, please sign".
Only time, and a couple of transfer windows, will confirm that, but it's what nearly everyone at the club believes.
I despise Levy but you don’t know that he walked away due to lack of funds. I think it’s more likely that Conte was burnt out and fatigued due to the recent stress at Inter and just wanted some time to recover

I don't know, it's just club office gossip ... as you say probably a bit of both.
What does seem certain is that some 200m (the max we could spend under FPP rules) could be made available in 2022. Not saying it will, more likely some sales will need to happen as well, it's not so much the transfer fees that are the issue, it's the wages that cause the FPP problems.
If Levy is prepared to gamble, not his strength, that our income will rebound to >500m this year, then spending 200m and adding 500k a week to salaries is certainly financially possible, we will see.
FYI - If Todd Kline can pull in deals, especially a naming rights deal, then all bets are off. 200m could easily become 400m .... wouldn't that be something.
Agree and it’s absolutely the best time to invest for a few other reasons:
1) Conte is a big draw and good players will want to play for him
2) Euro clubs seem to be suffering massively so top players could be available at a better price

At least we will have a fighting chance of getting some quality in with Conte here absolutely no chance with Nuno .I certainly have more faith in Conte picking a player than our previous guys who were awful in the main .

As for you laughing out loud out loud out loud at Airfixx's claim that we were willing to pay €60 million for the lad in the summer, we were. Villarreal and Pau Torres confirmed it.
There's no mystery at all to the sum, it's his cláusula de rescisión, his buy-out clause.

The figure of €60 million isn't mentioned, but as I mentioned before, it didn't have to be. Villarreal were transparently clear from the offset that they would only sell if the buy-out clause was met (in such a case, they have no say at all in the matter, it's purely down to the player). They said this in spring, when Madrid were expressing an interest and they repeated it in the summer, when we were the suitors (Madrid having moved their gaze on to Kounte at Sevilla).

You simply don't understand how cláusulas work, you're making a fool of yourself.
If we had made "a joke offer" it would have been Villarreal who turned us down and told Levy to fuck off, not Torres, it wouldn't have been anything at all to do with him.
As it was we were offering the buy-out clause, as the club had made clear that was all they were interested in. As soon as we did, VCdF were legally obliged to notify the player and from then on, they had NO SAY WHATSOEVER in the matter. They did so and the ball was then in the player's court. In his alone.
We don't have to match the buy-out clause to have an initial conversation with the club/player
