Lyon and Spurs have agreed his loan, now waiting on Lo Celso to agree it.
Been so disappointed with him. I’d seen a fair bit of him when we bought him and I thought we were getting someone who could take the ball from our defence, progress our play, pick a pass, and all we’ve got is a less tough Lamela without the occasional moments of genius.

Says it all, cheers I'm out

Says what all. You honestly think no-one would take Gil for a season. If we got offered Declan Rice for a loan, I doubt we would turn it down, Gil is a special talent and the idea all the clubs in the championship would say no isn’t believable.

But now the whole thing is completely off the original point, if we are going to loan Gil he must be ready next season to play for us otherwise why loan him.

I do not dislike him, but we have to be honest. He is not on Juve's level and I think he won't in the future. Every bid above 30 million we should accept, because his value would be lower after another season of dissapointment.

He is too slow, not agile, need too much space and time to pull a top notch action, shot or pass. You know he can make that one key pass to score, but he never delivers because he needs too much time for litteraly everything. I think his only real quality is his footwork on the ball close to him when he isn't running. That is the moment when you see his pure technique and he is playing easily with the ball. Too bad, it is most of the time not in a match, more some skills for training ground. Sell to Paratici and his jews in London.

Wow!! I see the anti Semitic nazi’s are out in full force on the Juventus forum

I don't begrudge the bloke anything because he made no comment about comng our way.

He will need to transform into sonething extraordinary to do well for Barcelona and arguably if he does, it might say more about the state of football in La Liga at present than anything else.

The biggest lesson for us, if we did make a bid and did offer to bring him here is that other clubs won't or dont have to accept insulting lowball offers and that players mostly have an idea where they think they will be at their best in terms of position..

In saying that I doubt Xavi offered any guarantees if indeed he had any say in the transfer.

I’ve now edited to include league cup. 7 out of past 8 winners were Chelsea or Man City.

10 out of last 15 domestic trophies won by two dirty clubs. That will get worse when Newcastle rise.

I think the average fans manages to underestimate how much of an impact that dirty money has had on the chances of success for everyone else.

Everyone talks about the big 6 but only the best Liverpool team for a generation has managed to make a dent in their PL dominance. One of those two teams have reached every domestic final in the past 5 years. You either beat a financially doped side in a final or they win it.

The champions league final was those two teams last year.

If you can’t see the impact not just money but DIRTY money has had over the past 5 -10 years then I can’t help you.
There’s been an effect undoubtedly but it’s not a monopoly just yet . And as I said , there are other cups & ways to get a better income / publicity . We fucked up hugely after the CL final by not building & the decline is evident. Kind of feels like we let the opportunity pass us by

Every time someone quotes from another teams forum I always think… fuck me, I hope no one is selecting quotes from spurs forums and pretending they’re balanced, reasonable perspectives.

but... do you think that the guy would accept to play in championship? I don't think so.

so the question is: for the player is it better to play in spain or stay on the bench with us for the rest of the season?

Well that is question of mentality, Skipp and Kane did it and came back men. If Gil can accept 6 months of a hard scrap he has the opportunity to do what they did.

We did fuck up. I agree. But we did try to build. We gave Poch one of the most highly rated young English players that we’d been courting for years and two central midfielders worth 100m.

If those 3 players had been 80% as good as we’d hoped then we’d be doing really well.

City and Chelsea also make expensive signings who fail to have an impact. But they can shrug off those failures. We are like Liverpool. To have success we need to be lucky and make no big mistakes and have a great manager. Our margin for error is small.

Fair point about EL. Maybe we could do more there but our aim should always be not to be even in it.

No. You just don't pay 40 mil for him. Period. That's as much as Juve paid for him and he flopped very badly. What you do is tell Juve bosses to wind their neck in, that's it's a loan with option not obligation, and if you're still keen on a permanent transfer in the summer, it'll be 12-15 mil tops with a percentage of the resale profit. That's what real big clubs with decision-makers who truly know their shit would do. But we're Spurs and our main men are Levy and Fabio

With all the "Levy haggles to much" ranting that dominates this thread; surely you can see the irony dripping off of your post.... Particularly the highlighted part.

Additionally: reports were that Spurs wanted an "option" and the mooted price point was 30m (not 40m)..... (Can't recall if that was pounds or euros tho.)
