Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Buying him now to remain in Croatia till 18 seems risky, and frankly really stupid.

His current club no longer has any stake in him, they'll prioritise other players over him when it comes to playing time. That is unless he's so damn good that he is impossible to bench, which seems very unrealistic.

his fee may be conditional upon him playing say 75% of matches he is fit for over next 2 years ...... but if he is as good as the Split fans say they will want to play him anyway

It’s going to be their record transfer fee,

A large section of their club and fanbase think he’s the best talent they have ever produced,

The fans want him to play and the club want him reflect well on future sales. They are also title contenders these days and by next season he will be a good distance better than any player they can afford to sign.

Ignore bitter comments from other Croatian/Hajduk fans, by the vast majority of accounts this kid is generational.
Would Santos have benched Neymar if he’d been bought early and left on loan?

Nobody has mentioned how us spending £12 million on a 16 year old is a little out of character for us.

Glad we’ve got him but I’m surprised at the same time.
Inflation taken into account, it's a lot less than it sounds. I read somewhere that the 18 million we got for Carrick was equivalent to 70 million in 2021ish and that was pre-Saudi money and pre-Boehly going wild.

We'll see I guess. If he doesn't get real game time I hope we loan him to another club.

Spot on.

There's nothing to 'we'll see I guess' about this.

There is no way they won't continue to play him.

Just seen some Luka Vušković highlights, which heavily features his long passing. If that is representative of his skills, he could be a very good complement to Dorrington who loves to run up the pitch with the ball.

Very interesting, but still a long time to go before any of us will properly see either play.

when Hajduk were linked with Perisic earlier in the summer someone on here said we should insist on having first option on Vuskovic as he is so good. I think it was a Hajduk fan? can't find the post though.

CB prospects looking very promising all of a sudden.

Probably still looking at a 2 year timeframe but if just one of Phillips, Dorrington or this new bloke are the real deal we are in good shape.

It hurts reading this (if it's indeed true)...

Revealed: Tottenham pulled plug on deal for '£100m next Alan Shearer' - because he's 'not physical enough'

Tottenham pulled the plug on signing Evan Ferguson as a 15-year-old due to scouts’ misgivings over his physical potential, sources have told Football Insider.

Spurs watched the Brighton striker closely when he was making a name for himself in his native Ireland in his mid-teens and were firmly in the race to lure him from Irish club Bohemians at that stage.

It is believed, sources say, that talent spotters from the London giants were impressed by Ferguson’s potential and felt he could make it at Premier League level.

But talks over a deal did not progress because scouts felt that the striker, then 15, had almost reached his full physical size and had doubts over whether the rest of his game could compensate.

In the event, Ferguson went on to grow to be 6ft 2in and filled out considerably over the following years.

Brighton eventually won the race to prise Ferguson from Bohemians in January 2021 when he was 16 and coveted by multiple Premier League clubs, who also included Liverpool.

He made his debut for the Seagulls in an EFL Cup clash at 16 and his Premier League debut followed shortly after, a month after his 17th birthday.

The teenage sensation who does not turn 19 until next month, is now firmly established as one of the outstanding attacking talents in European football and gave further indication of his ability with a hat-trick for Brighton in their 3-1 Premier League win over Newcastle United last weekend.

Ferguson already has four league goals this season and a remarkable 14 from just 33 senior matches for the south-coast club.

Football finance expert and Brighton fan Kieran Maguire is in no doubt about the youngster’s value.

If his development continues, then in a year’s time the club won’t stand in his way of a move,” Maguire told Football Insider.

He’s got all the attributes of a young Shearer and Alan Shearer in today’s market at the age of 19 would be worth well over £100million
I call bullshit on the notion that anyone, let alone a football scout, would look at a 15 (FIFTEEN!) year old and declare that they reckon they're done developing physically...

The article literally states in one paragraph that these fictional scouts felt that he could make it to PL level, and in the very next paragraph that they also felt that his game wasn't good enough to compensate for the physical limitations of his 15 year oldness...

There's probably onward fees too, like sell on % and bonus payments if he develops further at Spurs based on appearances etc. Basically it's in their interest for him to be as good as possible, as it will continue to earn them money beyond his time there.

Is there any official word on this or are we just going off twitter sources?

According to this artical;

Luka Vuskovic will not arrive at Spurs until 2025

It'S the hip thing for fans to talk about trf add-ons these days; only to completely forget about them again once the deal has been signed.
