Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Just seen some Luka Vušković highlights, which heavily features his long passing. If that is representative of his skills, he could be a very good complement to Dorrington who loves to run up the pitch with the ball.

Very interesting, but still a long time to go before any of us will properly see either play.

Dorrington is great running with the ball as you say but he's also got great passing - often long diagonal balls to pick up a forward running down a flank, and maybe 50 yards away.

Buying him now to remain in Croatia till 18 seems risky, and frankly really stupid.

His current club no longer has any stake in him, they'll prioritise other players over him when it comes to playing time. That is unless he's so damn good that he is impossible to bench, which seems very unrealistic.
No real other way to do it due to the post-Brexit rule changes making it so we can't sign overseas players until they turn 18.

We did the same with Udogie and Sarr.....

We should do more of this.

There's probably onward fees too, like sell on % and bonus payments if he develops further at Spurs based on appearances etc. Basically it's in their interest for him to be as good as possible, as it will continue to earn them money beyond his time there.

Is there any official word on this or are we just going off twitter sources?

There maybe some further fees depending upon how good he gets but only if he is successful in the future but they and any initial fee will be a lot less if it involves the established 'superstar' of Croatian football Ivan Perisic re-joining them in January as that's a huge benefit £'s to them now.

The 'here we go' tweet is the only 'official' comment on the deal so far

The deal will be confirmed today, no worries

We left them with their clubs for half a season. Udogie was already a vital starting 11 player. IIRC, Sarr was more of a bench player.

This kid is 16, and not fully a starter yet.

Even Croatian media sources seem to be fed off the one 'here we go' tweet. Senzacija na Poljudu, Luka Vušković odlazi u Tottenham, a u Hajduk stiže Ivan Perišić?

And pretty much all detail, including Perisic going to Split, seems to be speculation as much fuelled by suggestions on TFC as anywhere, so your certainty on deal being confirmed today is welcome, but based upon what ?
Hajduk Split sports director Mindaugas Nikolicius posted photo with ⌛️as description. That can only mean Vuskovic deal is about to be announced because we have no other transfers (incoming or outgoing) in sight.

We'll see I guess. If he doesn't get real game time I hope we loan him to another club.
May be better for his development to go up a level on loan in summer 2024 but even if he plays 15 senior games at 16 this season that’s still good for his development.

These days Football more and more see a players career in terms of total games played instead of years. No sense in burning him out early but as long as he’s ready to play by 18, this is smart business.

Udogie stayed a full season.

Sarr stayed a full season with Metz

Both were starters.

Club like us can’t get these types of talent by the time they get to RB, let alone if they get on City’s radar. This recruitment model is Brighton with x2 the cash to invest. It’s smart IMO

Fair enough. Suppose I'm getting Jack Clarke PTSD. Whatever the case, I hope it works out.

If he is good enough he'll play and develop and Hajduk benefits by being a better team. Simple as that.

Jack Clarke got 9 goals and 12 assists (21 goal involvements) in 45 matches last season in Championship and already has 2 goals in 5 matches this season...... so Clarke is not the issue.

Amazingly his record at Sunderland last year as an AM was surpassed by Alex Prichard, another former Spurs academy graduate.

The total failure of the last 3 (4 including Nuno) permanent coaches/managers to get pretty much anything right for youth development is mindboggling - might exclude Mourhino who did get a few things right. No apparent ability to get them loans at the right clubs or actively monitoring their progress whilst there just another example. And the reason why we have struggled on Club trained and HG front

I meant how after we planned him back to Leeds he was seemingly frozen out by Bielsa.

Jack clarke ironically was a club signing, he wasn't signed for Poch and funnily enough it looks like it turned out that he is the only one who was decent.

Agree, but its part of the buying process to know if player is to be loaned back and ensure its agreed - and possibly configure the payments so if club to whom he is loaned don't play him, they suffer. But after the Leeds loan fiasco he was loaned to several other clubs with indifferent results.

And equally manager needs to know which players he is responsible for developing in house - although Conte was a waste of space from that point of view

Can't change the team after that performance though there's normally some rotation after the international break due to fatigue.

Excited to see whether Johnson can slip in and finish.
