Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Tottenham have told 29-year-old England defender Eric Dier, Denmark midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, 28, and French keeper Hugo Lloris, 37, they can leave the club in January.

Watch him sign a new contract.

You’re 100% right according to this Athletic article in February.

“It is believed Daniel Levy did alot of the running for the [Richarlison] deal. A source close to the transfer said Levy recognised before pretty much every other Premier League club that Everton would in financial peril last summer and would be willing to sell Richarlison for a fair price. It felt like an opportunistic move rather than one that was based on 12 months of hard scouting and realization that Richarlison was the perfect fit.”

Levy found out the Everton was distressed seller and smelled a bargain - and went for the deal without regard to a philosophy, playing style or proper scouting. The usual story.

But credit where credit is due - The disastrous Jose/Nuno/Conte era seems to have taught Levy a lesson - and hopefully he’s stepped back from transfers / is letting football people recruit players that fit a playing style with minimal interference. Let’s hope it lasts and Levy sanctions the funds for a centerback early in the window.🤞

Levy is a shark that smells blood in the water.
The problem is, what he keeps finding is a vegan alternative. But he keeps smelling the blood, swimming over and taking a bite of that floating dead lie.

Tbh, I get pure Papiss Cisse vibes from Guirassy.

In that, if someone does sign him in January, I think he'll ride his wave and go on and score a bucket load between now and the end of the season. But then from next season onwards, Will revert to the norm of previous years.

Signing makes no sense anyway due to him going AFCON so don't really belive the links tbh

Being repeated by Fabrizio Romano and Allie Gold, so seems like its close to being done.

Its good he's found himself another club - was very surprised he didn't move last summer as he had a couple of months to think about it after Vicario signed.

He made 447 appearances over 11 years, and captain for much of that time. so a huge presence at Spurs.

From Spurs point of view his move :
1 Frees up an unused squad place as he's not made a match squad this season
2. As one of the higher earners at the club will free up space in the wages budget.

We should never be signing forwards after an isolated hot streak.
Did it with Jansen and he was cack.
All PL teams seem to have done it at least once each.

Of the 3 English 25 year old back ups we’ve been linked with - Tosin, Godfrey and Kelly - I'm most keen on Godfrey

Not advocating the signing. Just saying if someone signs him in January, I reckon he goes on to score 10+ league goals between then and summer.and helps them reach their goals.

It's beyond that I'd start to worry.

I think the CB situation and other signings are very different, due to the injury crisis at CB. Anyone we sign in January and going to the African or Asian comps is only going to miss 2, maybe 3, matches.

I wouldn't be opposed to signing a striker or midfielder going to the AFCON, but we need a CB immediately so the needs are different. Honestly, I think we need to be targeting primarily CBs currently in the PL who can hit the ground running. Won't do us much good to sign someone at CB who is bedded in and comfortable come Feb or March when they're on the bench behind Romero and Micky.
