Transfers January Transfer Thread 24/25

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

His agent is basically saying another other club like man united offer the money spurs have. We can start talking wages. He's waiting for offers and U can guarantee we ain't getting him. Garnacho money will pay for him. And them down the road have money to spend
Who’s going to pay the money needed for Garnacho though?

I doubt their are too many clubs in Europe who’d stump up what United expect.

Keane was bought by Liverpool at one price but offloaded 6 months later as the player didn't work out and Spurs did well out of that.

I very much doubt if the Keane resale was expected when he went to Liverpool, and never said it was.

But the fact Keane flopped and didn't play that much at Liverpool ...... is totally consistent with Liverpool buying him being to disrupt Spurs rather than them wanting the player. When Spurs didn't fall apart and Liverpool didn't want the player any more ....... Spurs happy to take him back at a discount.

I clearly think a lot more of Berbatov as a player than you do, so I don't agree with your idea of valuation. No surprise, lots of fans disagree with player valuations.
Again, do you honestly think a team, especially one as big as Liverpool (Who had won the CL just 3 short years before this transfer) would be sat around in a meeting room going "so, we have a £40m budget this window, I know there's a lot of gaps to fill in the squad, but really what I want to do with half of that money is break our transfer record to destabilise Tottenham Hotspur"?

I'm sorry but you are full on tin foil hat if so. That's absolutely bananas thinking. There's not a single club on the fucking planet that conducts transfer business that way. They bought Keane coming off the back of his best ever season in a Spurs shirt and quickly found out they bought the wrong striker and it was Berbatov making Keane look shit hot, because all Keane had to do was work hard and feed Berbatov. Liverpool unfortunately did not have a Berbatov, so having the hard-running 10 was of absolutely no fucking use to them. It's not a conspiracy, Liverpool did poor due diligence and got stung.

Love that little jab about you rating Berbatov so highly, conveniently ignoring that the price United paid was the price Levy demanded they pay, hence why it took til the end of the window. Unless you're now arguing that Levy doesn't extract every last penny out of sales, I thought that was the one positive quality we unilaterally agreed on him having?

It’s a done deal!!!! Just saw him on the high road!!!! :mickyarm:

I thought we'd put this one to bed.

As I understand it, players are picked based on the data led approach. They're then scouted and, if deemed right, are then pursued. AP might have final sign off, but I don't think any of our players are "Ange picks."

I believe the club is buying players based on the style of Football we want to play, and the Managers are selected for the same reasons, rather than buying players to suit whatever manager happens to be incumbent at the time.

I could be wrong here, but that was my understanding of the process we are now following.
100% explains the Gray transfer. Was not at all opportunistic and only happened because his deal with Brentford fell through.

Sorry. Not meaning to be digging ya, but the club is full of bullshit and lies. And it needs calling out

A fan base is just reflective of its culture and circumstance.

Chelsea: spoilt barstards who think they can sign anyone in the world
Liverpool: always expect to win or find a way to win
Woolwich: always the nearly men and in constant frustration at that
Spurs and West Ham: always expect a clown show

It’s easier to just expect what has always happened.

Proper cult hero. Amazing languid style. Made the game look so easy.

There’s a reason Fergie’s United wanted him so much

Lange has travelled to Munich? Surely, unless the player was interested we wouldn’t even do so. Can’t see this one happening if he’s holding out for other offers. We know when in comes to wages we don’t pay. File under ‘We tried’.

Ange has also said he makes the final call on any transfer.
Yes, I pretty much said that with "final sign off."
Love him or hate him, it's not in Ange's nature to be at odds with the club's transfer strategy, which has been oriented around the basic principles of youth, technical quality in possession and attacking mentality as he would want anyway.
Agreed.
"The good signings get credited to this guy, the bad signings were the fault of this other guy" was always shitty, ignorant, misguided discourse around here.
Par for the course on this forum.
(Except with respect to Steve Hitchen being the most unqualified incompetent idiot ENIC have ever employed, of course)
One of the few observations that I think 100% of the forum would agree with.

Funnily enough, I'm ALWAYS positive that Woolwich will find a way to win... Usually late on, at their usual Cunt o'clock!

It's what I've been conditioned to expect down the years...
From the League Cup SF in 1987, to Anfield in '89...
...and I can tell you, they always disappoint me by never lletting me down!

You are tying yourself into knots :

1. Liverpool were good at the time buying but made a mistake on Keane ?

2 Then you say they ought to have bought Berbatov as he was the better player

3 You have said that £30m was a high price for Berbatov .....

You keep on contradicting yourself. Berbatov was an excellent player, even if you didn't lappreciate him as much as I did. IMO pre Kane he was the best striker we had since possibly Sherringham !

and here's a reminder as its a european night for us tonight:

Tel is waiting til after our match to have a quick phone call with Ange then will sign the dotted line. Also we're gonna buy Cherki, strengthening us and weakening our opposition in Europa.
