Management Johan Lange - Technical Director

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Mentioned it in another thread but this last week of leaked transfer targets just feel very unlike Langes other windows. It just reeks of Levy meddling.

Wouldn’t surprise me if he left the club in the near future

Was thinking the same until the Danso deal which came out of nowhere and had Lange all over it.

Seems a lot like Levy and the club wanted to make a big statement this window, going big fish hunting and it backfired. I really wouldn't be surprised to find out that Levy had been listening more to Paratici on those targets instead of Lange. Especially as 2/3 deals involved Italian clubs.

Danso is much more like the model that has been working for Lange so far and you have to wonder if he'd been pushing to get it done earlier but ran into internal politics. I's completely flipped my view on Lange and made me want to see it through on his squad build. We probably won't see the full fruits of this for another 2 years but should be in a much healthier position after the next summer window.

It was said on SC (yes I know) a couple of weeks ago that Lange had deals ready to go but it was levy refusing to sanction them. This tallies with that comment.

Not really.

"Ready for business" just means having your shopping list ready....... Doesn't mean other clubs are ready to open negotiations with you at that point..... Or that ours and other club's predicaments/requirements don't change as the month unfolds.

Kinsky was also done within a few days of the window opening. Our interest/pursuit of Muani came into frame fairly early.

I'd stick with the 'SC is full of shit and grifters' theory.

Also from that same tweet:

"Lange cited the change in the format of UEFA competitions as part of what made an already slow moving window even more tedious across Europe this year."

I don’t get the hate for Lange other than he is boring. His remit seems to be to get talented kids like Kinsky and Bergvall to fit in with the ‘project’ of the club. The project of the club being we need low wages so buy youngsters as they potentially can be great players on low wages. He is doing this very well.

The alternative which is the Paratici method is to get a guy who is great at politics and contracts and can get players like Kulusevski and Bentancur for a good price. A charmer basically.

Lange isn’t even the DoF, he is the ‘technical director’. I rather keep him but find a way to bring Paratici back even if it means booting Munn out of the way and giving Paratici some higher hybrid type of role.

If we can give Paratici big wages to get him here and have Lange as our the driver of scouting we can hoover up young talents but also do lots of dodgy deals on the side.

This is what is probably going to happen. Our Chief Executive Officer role on the business side is currently vacant per a recent article and that sounds like a perfect role to slot Munn into once Fabio can come back into the fold.

Another advantage of getting Paratici in in some way is when he was here I remember 1-2 articles (1 I think from Ali Gold) about how Paratici had Levy’s ear and was very good at making the case for this player or that player. It just seemed like he was the guy to keep Levy and the clueless board focused on what needed to be done.

Thing about a guy like Lange is that he’s methodical and uses terms like “evidence based”. It’s not his job to be charismatic and I’m fine with that.

I’m not coming out of that window pining for Paratici tbh. Not saying don’t bring him back into the fray but just don’t interrupt what Lange is building long term

No thanks to Paratici.

Over simplified but to me it's like this"

Paratici = Deal over player.
He decides what he's looking for, spins multiple plates and then goes for the one which he feels is the best deal.

Lange = Player over deal.
He scrolls hours of spreadsheets, filtering away until he knows exactly what he wants but if he can't get a deal for that player now, he's happy to get younger version and wait for them to develop.

Short term you feel the instant impact of Paratici style but long term Lange absolutely stacks your squad with talent you could only buy if your name is City or Real.

The only caveat I'd add to this though is that he failed to pitch our club to Tel...... Levy got involved and he too was selling the "project" rather than the plans we had for Tel..... It took a 3rd attempt from Ange to hook him in.

Whether that's a lack charisma or a player state of mind; but that's something we should look at whether it's Paratici or someone else.

Whether that's charisma or just a player state of mind; but that's something we should look at whether it's Paratici or someone else.

Lange and Levy is a charisma graveyard, I can confidently say I have more than both combined and I am not some big personality. Ange and Paratici have the charm.

Just think about our leadership right now, Levy, Donna Cullen, Lange, Scott Munn. People who could send you to sleep.

That's what Ange is for and if it's not Ange it needs to be a strength for the next manager because they are the ones who will work with them on the training ground.
