Management Johan Lange - Technical Director

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

No thanks to Paratici.
This.

I just can’t understand Spurs fans obsession with this bloke.

Let us not forget he was our DOF when we signed messers Royal, Lenglet, Bissouma, Richarlison, Gil, Gollini, Danjuma. He was also the driving force behind Johnson and Dragusin.
Have a look at his record at Juventus when it came to signing players, it was equally as plop.

Then you factor in he was heavily involved in the infamous managerial debacle in summer 2021 that almost lead to Gatuso getting the gig.

And to top it all off he was then suspended for a huge corruption scandal.

The guy is an absolute bluffer and is not someone I would want anywhere near the club again.

Some fans just seem to be inexplicably infatuated with him because he still comes to our games and his nickname is “Don.”

I don’t get the hate for Lange other than he is boring. His remit seems to be to get talented kids like Kinsky and Bergvall to fit in with the ‘project’ of the club. The project of the club being we need low wages so buy youngsters as they potentially can be great players on low wages. He is doing this very well.

The alternative which is the Paratici method is to get a guy who is great at politics and contracts and can get players like Kulusevski and Bentancur for a good price. A charmer basically.

Lange isn’t even the DoF, he is the ‘technical director’. I rather keep him but find a way to bring Paratici back even if it means booting Munn out of the way and giving Paratici some higher hybrid type of role.

If we can give Paratici big wages to get him here and have Lange as our the driver of scouting we can hoover up young talents but also do lots of dodgy deals on the side.
Munn must on the easiest £4/5M a year. Wdf does he do. Never hear from him. What is he actually responsible for?

Over simplified but to me it's like this"

Paratici = Deal over player.
He decides what he's looking for, spins multiple plates and then goes for the one which he feels is the best deal.

Lange = Player over deal.
He scrolls hours of spreadsheets, filtering away until he knows exactly what he wants but if he can't get a deal for that player now, he's happy to get younger version and wait for them to develop.

Short term you feel the instant impact of Paratici style but long term Lange absolutely stacks your squad with talent you could only buy if your name is City or Real.

I'd suggest the other important distinction is that Paratici comes over as a 'salesman' type with lots of personality and bon viveur with good powers of persasion on a person to person basis but we have not seen him deal with facts, just end results which in terms of bring in good players is pretty good. But the assembling and analysing of facts part which Paratici relies upon maybe being done by someone else - we just do not know.

Lange comes across as a guy much more at home with facts - could easily be head of a research science unit (eg cancer research) with less powers of persuasion than Paratici.

Probably room for both (provided they can work together) as better decisions often come from teams of people with different skill sets and experience.

Watching his interview, no wonder he needs others to seal deals, he's got the personality of a wet fish. Probably best Levy or Ange speak to the players while he does the identifying. He seems competent enough for that so far. Just let him get on with that bit if that is his remit.

More than you are I think it’s fair to say.

The bitterness in threads like this is hilarious. People far more successful in their jobs and earning way more than most people here being mocked by losers who would struggle to get a job at KFC.

It’s a bit embarrassing.

Our owner just escaped prison recently. I think he fits in well

Ok Einstein tell us exactly what Munn does
What do you think he does?

I think he sits on his arse, twidddling his thumbs all day. Then he gets up and has a wank before going online to talk bollocks on the internet. Oh wait, that’s you.

He’s an executive I’m sure his day is structured around activities that you know nothing about. I’m pretty sure we’re not paying him 6 figures or probably 7 to do fuck all. If we were we could give you his job.

Interesting on Kinsky - how much emphasis there was on style of play.

This is Ange being at his daft worse.
You want a keeper who can save shots - not some theoretical niche player who can make pretty triangles at the back.

Just like Conte - you get the feeling we are looking at niche players for a system.
Good players - can play in any system .
Buy defenders who are good at defending
Attackers who are good at going forward and a goalie who is good at stopping goals going in .

I think this is profoundly wrong. Paratici was at Juve for many years when they were a dominant power in Italian football. The cheating he did was to try to win and spend more, bit alien to Levy fans I know. Of course there are younger and sharper people than Paratici or with a better eye for a player. But that doesn't make him a bluffer.

I think Spurs fans like the idea of us being run by a guy with many years practical experience at a super club rather than a guy who wasn't an ambitious enough hire for Aston Villa and an empty suit like Munn.

What?

Many many directors of football have ran clubs excellently, pushing boundaries and winning trophies without resorting to criminal activities.

And as I previously posted, the notion that he pulled up trees while he was here is absolute revisionist nonsense.
He signed crap players, presided over one of the most embarrassing manager searches in our history and the club was just as much of a dis functional mess as it is now when he was here.

That’s not to say Lange is any better btw.

He only did what a few clubs have been doing to keep in line with PSR. Overpaying for players between same clubs. Maatsen to Villa from Chelsea for 35m…ridiculous. Everton and Villa swapping youth players for 10m
Various others, he has not been convicted of a criminal offence, unlike Uncle Joe who would have been locked up if he was 20yrs younger. Paratici bought players for the first team mainly, Lange has bought young players in the main who cannot be seen as success or failure for a few years.
He also re hashed the academy, the results of which we are now seeing. Persuaded Levy to pay top youth players the going rate. I remember him saying it is worth paying over the odds to get the player you want. Not sure that will apply with the current hierarchy now.
