I thought it was partly because Mitchell wanted to buy Batshuayi but levy refused to stump up the cash and/or Poch didn’t want him. Or it was that which played a part in it. They were correct it seems. I was never convinced by Mitchell, it always felt like he was just using the FM database to buy players!

Mitchell was already trying to buy Janssen, and had taken Poch to watch him. Rob Mackenzie confirmed this in the scout7 podcast.

I was also not convinced by Mitchell. His work elsewhere has been hit and miss, and he never stays very long in jobs.

Lange's signings for us are: Dominic Solanke, Archie Gray, Antonin Kinsky, Wilson Odobert, Lucas Bergvall, and Yang Min-Hyeok. Lange's primary remit from Levy was to buy young players who will increase in value and become star players in the future. Other than Solanke (Ange's main target at CF) , you cannot really judge these signings for another 3 years. But you can criticise Levy for not having a strategy to buy players that are better than the ones we had/have in the here and now.

This summer will be interesting as we need to sell before we buy, both for space in the squad, and because we apparently owe ~£280M in outstanding fees for current players. We also may have commitments / intentions to buy Tel and Danso (although it appears that the former is only an option and not an obligation).

With the likes of Vuskovic, Devine, Donley, Moore all potentially ready to contribute to the first team squad in 2025/26, if we do not have European football next year I can see us buying no-one (other than Danso), and letting a few leave (Bissouma, Romero, Richarlison, Davies, and dare I say it - Son).

No way.

I'm not sure that's 100% accurate they have been restrained by FFP. They've bought a lot of players in the price band we operate in. They've just done very good business.

They've even turned Joe Linton into a footballer....
I think that it is less that they are constrained but more that they are constraining themselves.

The City and Chelsea cases are (somehow) still going on. So Newcastle are probably playing it smart and sliding under the radar as much as they can. And using that time to get some new sponsorships so by the time that they do start splurging, it will "look more natural".

Ok, cheers. I didnt know that about Janssen. This is how I remember it.

We'll get relegated if this happens

No way are we buying no-one and letting several first team / first 16 players leave.

The only players I absolutely think we must get shot of are Werner (going back anyway) and Tel (as he isn't worth £15m, never mind £50m or whatever it is). For the rest if (big IF) they want to be here under a new coach and team, then I'd be happy they all stayed. Son should be benched or leave. Bit on the fence with Richie. Cld he turn it round under a new coach? There is a proper player in there who is good for 15+ goals a season.

Yeah, if you actually explore the datelines the whole Batshuayi thing just didn't add up. Rob Mackenzie also talked about it on a podcast called Scout7.

I don't know if Marcotti is correct (I've previously posted links to the podcast where he said it was known that Poch fell out with Mitchell) but even if he's wrong, I don't think it was Batshuayi that was the issue.

The whole notion of it being Levy's "tightness" is dubious given that prior to us he was at Southampton and after us he was at RBL and Monaco - all of those clubs operate on smaller (much) budgets/wages and have buy young/inherent value policies.

If it was Levy he fell out with, it might have just been his meddling in every transfer, but like I said, Marcotti (who's usually pretty well informed) suggests it was actually Poch he fell out with, and it was Poch who lobbied for not replacing Mitchell with a DOF over his head and for him to have more transfer say.

Some journalists are peddling this story of 'having to sell before we buy' (highlighted in your post above) for clicks - largely because they are either ignorant or too lazy to look at any facts.

Some facts they could have looked at. Last years accounts show :
At 30 June 2024
- transfer fees due within 1 year £146m, due after 1 year £ 191m
- transfer fees paid during year to June 2024 £ 224m
At 30 June 2023
- transfer fees due with in 1 year, due after 1 year £153m
- transfer fees paid during year to June 2023 £138m
https://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/media/u0zfekc4/tottenham-hotspur-limited-fy24-signed-accounts.pdf

We only contractually need to pay £146m in year to June 2025 (no idea on Danso's obligation to buy of circa 25m the timescales over which we are contractually obliged to pay this). The majority of that comes from the cash flow ew make each year

The only reason we need to sell before we buy is that our squad is already bloated - we could NOT name all our players in EL squad as we had too many. NOTHING to do with finances

So very likely we spend circa £150m gross (as we have done in last few years) and BUY a few players - not a 'buy nobody' window as you suggest.

Why peddle other people's ignorance which is easily exposed by some facts ?

I was not "peddling other people's ignorance" (thanks!). Why be so provocative for no reason to a fellow Spurs fan? And not convinced you have 'exposed them' with facts.

I mentioned a major reason that we will need to sell before we buy is that our squad is bloated and we also have players returning from loan to consider. I also mentioned that reportedly we have a significant transfer debt (2nd biggest in the league) and also a significant reduction in our cash reserves (which you do not reference). Does that count as peddling others ignorance, or is it considering media reports in the public when I give my opinion?

Your research omitted mentioning Levy's own recent messaging ... "We cannot spend what we do not have, and we will not compromise the financial stability of this club,"

Another major factor is whether we will have European football next season or not.

Every trf window one of the bell-ends at The Athletic say we are skint and need to sell-B4-buy and every window Spurs fans guzzle it down without a second thought.
