Manager Jose Mourinho

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I’m not sure he is the man to make Spurs a good side challenging for trophies but, like you I want to see it happen.
My reservations are probably like a lot of others in that I’m not sure if his approach will pay dividends, his second spell at Chelsea and his time at Man United both ended badly and you see how United have improved since he left.
Not only that but under an unproven manager with no track record.
In saying all that, I’m willing to back him and hope he is the man to turn things around.

But even in a poor spell at Utd he still won the Europa and league cup

The last thing you should do is muddy your mind about his time at Chelsea or United. Look at the facts, if you can.

Won trophies for both clubs - fact
Players love him at both clubs (minus Pogba) - fact.
He is an obsessive winner who will do all it takes to get over the finish line. So at a club like this, what’s not to like about the above? The sooner he gets us to some titles and cups, any cups, the sooner we can stop being the butt of all the jokes all around. Also, this will cement our stature globally as the real deal.

Before you bore us with, “he spent a lot at United to win lower cups and come 2nd...” OGS has spent a bunch now and is not looking like winning a cup, and also is struggling to come 4th.
I have no intention of boring anyone about Solskjaer, I said he has United heading the right direction but they are long way off City and Liverpool yet, I also said he has no track record and won’t til he wins trophies.
I also said I’m hoping Mourinho takes Spurs forwards but I’m not totally convinced he will.
But I hope he does, goes without saying.

Agreed, but look at where Chelsea and United were when he left.
I’m in the pro Mourinho camp but I’m just saying I do have slight reservations about him.
I want to see him turn Spurs into a great side and win trophies.
He inherited a mess of a squad and needs time to sort it out and I hope he does.

Agreed mate and so do I
I’ve said he wouldn’t have been my choice but give him a chance instead of all the pointless negativity

I think you summed up my opinion pretty succinctly there.
I think he has his work cut out to shape a new team that will challenge for trophies but I hope to see it happen.
And if it does I will quite happily admit my reservations about him were wrong.

Big MJ took over from Santini who was way out of his depth in the Prem; and Redknapp took over from Ramos who was also way out of his depth...Jose has taken on a team in decline but managed by someone who knew what they were doing. It’s worse, in a way: easy to pick up after an imbecile, someone who should never have been there; when there’s an alternative, respected, personality, then you have to slowly unpick learned habits. Plus Santini and Ramos were only there a short time: this is well- and- truly Poch’s team, with Poch’s focus and way-of-playing (which stopped working effectively Jan 2019). Shame.
I agree for many years I worked as a Manager for a National Company and moved from job to job in different areas. It was undoubtedly easier to take over from someone that had messed up or was not very good than take over from a successful person. With the later it was harder to get staff to accept your ways of working as they still had respect from my predesssor. Although Poch messed up towards the end of his spell, he clearly retained the respect of many players who would have found it difficult to accept new ways of working.

Apparently shot on goal are well down as well, which is an important stat. We used to give so many teams chances.
Of course there are less shots when we're creating less chances and have been missing our only top striker for a large portion of the season.

Eriksen and actually Trippier have been big losses IMO wrt. chance creation and set pieces especially. Son's corners have been pretty turd tbh, GLC's not much better.

Edit: misread that obviously shots against, makes sense with less goals conceded.

Are we having less shots does anyone know? We definately seem to be creating less.

I was talking about conceding shots on our own goal.

I remember the home game against Bournemouth being a prime example. We were still giving so many shots up to them. They had 20 shots on goal!

Realised that and edited before you posted there.

Ok cool. I struggled to find any stats for shots conceded. Just going by my memory of games and reading reports about earlier in the season about Woolwich who were giving up the most.....and we were giving up second most!

Whoscored have shots per game https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/2...amStatistics/England-Premier-League-2019-2020

Down compared to the previous season

And even further down on the season before that!

Averages:

19/20 - 12
18/19 - 14
17/18 - 16
16/17 - 18

Someone has definitely posted a graph about Xg and how Xg conceded and Xg created have changed massively over that time for the worse. It's on this link

Totally agree: I’ve been trying to justify the endless selection of Lucas, for example, and - to some extent - Sanchez or Dier over Toby or Jan and I think it’s about those that ‘buy-in’ to Jose’s way will get selected. Similar to Poch’s alienation of players, but they’re looking for different skills. Jose wants players who will run through a brick-wall if asked to - explains Sissoko, Aurier (too daft not to), Dier, Davies over Rose within weeks - as well as the isolation of N’Dombele and Sessegnon.

I teach: it takes a long time for a group to ‘unlearn’ some of what they’ve done before and trust in new methods. Also, a lot of this team started here at a youngish age and have been here a long time.
He needs time.

My eyeballs say we are generating less shots and less shots on goal. We don’t get many quality shots anymore.
